Default Fridge with water/ice dispenser question

We have been out looking at fridge/freezers today and really like the ones with the ice and water dispensers. The only prob we have with them is that they need to be plumbed. Does anyone have one? Is the plumbing a pain?

We got one that connects to a tap. Fortunately there was a tap where the fridge was designed to go. I'd imagine putting a tap in is not a big deal as most of the internal walls I've seen are hollow.

putting a tap in could get expensive depeding on where the nearest water is.i reckon you would be looking at a good few hundred dollars.

We bought a F/F that needed plumbing in too. Rang a plumber and he installed a tap for $150.
All he did was drill a hole in the wall behind the fridge, found the water supply pipe which was in the bathroom in the next room.

It was done in 20 mins.

Same here - $125 (three years ago) to get it plumbed in and wouldn't be without the ice dispenser!

Check if there is a spare tap somewhere nearby - many new houses have taps etc in locations for such fridges and/or dishwashers.

If there isn't a tap nearby then you'd have to figure out how your going to get one there.

could be cheap as chips - but might take a bit of work if your fridge will be in a location where there are no taps nearby!

Yes, it could get expensive. Our fridge backs onto an outside wall where there is no tap neaby. The water supply in our kitchen is in the middle of the floor for the island and nowhere near the fridge. And our house has NO hollow interior walls. They're all solid brick with plaster on top. No gyproc/drywall here in WA.

Strangely enough, that's why I used the word "most". I thought it likely that there would be someone out there who didn't

We had the same problem as no tap/water available near the recess for double fridge/freezer so we got one with a ice making machine which you just fill up when you want ice, we have a free standing water dispenser which takes those huge bottles and this fits in at the side of the fridge, problem solved.

We managed to fit a 'Y' adaptor to the dishwasher feed and the fridge had a long enough hose. The adaptor cost under £1.
