Freedom Shipping - what about large items?

It's finally time to get serious about this moving lark, so I'm looking at removal companies and Freedom Shipping seems to offer just what we need. :)

I've read some very positive reviews about their prices and performance, but would appreciate some extra detail from anyone who's used them.

While I understand that they do offer a packing service for certain larger items, what happens with really large furniture, like bookcases, beds, sofas, etc? And will they accept whitegoods? (Our fridge and freezer are only babies, but our washer/dryer is a bit of a monster!)

Answers on a postcard to this thread...

Dunno about existing stuff, but if you want cheap deals when you get here let me know a few weeks before and I'll save all the specials catalogues for you ;)

Large items should be Shipwrapped in Export bubble wrap or Kraft paper...to protect from rubbing ,this includes white goods................mm;)

We have used Freedom Shipping who in turn used Seven Seas to ship our boxes and we cannot fault them.

They have kept us informed every step of the way and today we had to pay our AQIS fee of $120 and we should get our stuff in 2 weeks.

Impressed so far anyway, just need to see if all of our boxes turn up.

You have to give them a call and they will give you a quote. I think they will help get it all packed up etc. I know they definitely do TVs, you'll have to check re the other stuff - as I think they may be a company who specialise in shipping the smaller stuff, it may not be very cost effective for you.

However, as the post above said they are very helpful on the telephone, so i guess that is your best bet. Wouldn't mind knowing your answer 'though, as we are thinking of taking our bikes ....

Righto, it turns out that they don't do large items like wardrobes & fridges, etc. So I am back to square one again.

Can anyone recommend a reliable shipping company for a married couple on a very slim budget, please?

Re: Freedom Shipping - what about large items?

We used freedom shipping in October to ship our stuff to Brisbane. We too were really impressed with them, right until the delivery date came and went. When I called them they completely lied about the date they had given us for delivery even though i had received emails off them telling us we would DEFINETLY receive our goods in time for christmas. It took ages for the mess to be sorted and no-one ever seemed to know what was going on. Our things finally turned up after 16 weeks NOT 6-8 as promised, the delay this time was that the boxes had been sent to Melbourne???? and the customs charges needed paying but they forgot to inform me of that when i called so the stuff sat there until they realised the problem. Not too sure if we would use them again, but they were the cheapest and nothing had been broken. They just need to get the admin side sorted out and not lie about delivery dates just to get your custom.
