Default Frankston/mount eliza

just trying to highlight possible living areas before our reccie in june. looking at frankston and mount eliza at the moment as prices here seem much more affordable than parkdale and mordialloc which were my other choices. just wondered if anyone could give any advice on what they are like?
my main concerns are if they are safe, family friendly and have good access to public transport? thank you x

Hi,

We rented in Mt.Eliza (close to the village) when we first arrived (over two years ago now) and we have bought in Frankston South. Mt.Eliza has a low crime rate and is deemed an upmarket area. Mt.Eliza Village has a couple of supermarkets, lots of hairdressers and beauty shops, several restaurants and a hotel with bar. Nice and small and has most of what you need but Frankston or Mornington has the larger shopping centres. Much of Frankston South is like Mt.Eliza. Frankston has it's critics and there is some snobbery about it's reputation as much of the commission housing in the area was built in Frankston North. Frankston town centre has it's fair share of clubs and pubs so there is some trouble. The shopping centre is good and there are council plans to improve Frankston over the coming years. Both areas tend to be of the older established type but there are a few new homes developments. Vacant blocks are hard to come by.

We like both areas as we like the large open spaces and bigger blocks. The state primary schools are very good and generally people don't bother sending their kids to private school until they are older as the state primary schools in the area are spot on. Frankston High School has a good reputation and there is a catchment area called "The Zone". There are some private schools too.

We find the area very family friendly. I have met many city people who have moved from the city down this way after having children. It's good for family life. Plenty of kids activities and other families to socialise with. The beaches are good and lots of kids go for a play on the beach after school. It's a lovely lifestyle and I find the people friendly.

Frankston Station is at the end of the Frankston line and I have heard that the station car park gets packed quickly, usually 7am. We thought Mr.G would end up working in the CBD and commute by train but actually got a job elsewhere so hasn't actually done the train commute thing. Buses to the station run through Mt.Eliza Village. It's take just over an hour to get to the city by train and funnily enough it's approx an hours drive too. The Metlink website has a journey planner which is quite helpful.

Hope this info helps.
Caroline

PS. If driving to the city on your reccie the Crown Casino offers reasonably priced parking $6.00 after 9am (I think that's the correct time)
