If you miss a Pint of Tetleys, and like being in the company of fellow brits, then sod off back to England, Joke... then you may well like this place.
Ian the Landlord as done a very good job on re-creating a authentic looking English pub from the outside, however, the inside is alittle bit of a let down, sure he's got lots of clutter on the walls, but it just looks like its been stuck there, the seating is so so too, but give him his dues, its OK, but it could have been alot better.
Now the staff and service, SLOW, SLOW,SLOW..... 4/10, must try harder, stop fanning about and get serving.......
Food!!! Now I have eaten here a number of times and to be honest its ok, its not fantastic but you can eat it, the English light snacks are very good as is the fish and chips. Ask for a steak and ale pie, and it comes with just chips, no salad or veg, or you can get it just with salad, strange or what. Pudding are very good......
Now to the best bit the Beer, when he first opened he was bragging about how it was the only proper English pub in Queensland, yet would you believe it, he did not sell any UK Beers on Tap, this as now changed and a number of beers can be had, plus cider, would be nice to see a few more too, but unfortunately this establishment is a restaurant/pub, and there for does not really cater for the drinker, even though he is open until 6pm on Sundays, you may well be turned away from the bar after 5pm, as he cant serve drinks with out food, ask for food, and you will be told the kitchen closed at 4.30. forget popping in here at night for a drink only. It lacks the atmosphere of a proper English pub, which is shame, but the owner cant really care , because he's racking it in on the food orders, and iam sure 90% of his business is passing trade, which means most will never be coming back, so why does he care.

We went a couple of months ago on a Friday evening, food was really nice, nice beer in a proper glass !!!, service was good, It's a bit hard to find in the dark could do with being lit a bit better.
We went a few weeks later on a saturday afternoon whilst passing to have a quick beer on a hot day, was nice to sit outside watching the world go by.

I am a great fan of proper pubs which, in my opinion, are not places that serve food (apart form pickled eggs, crisps, nuts and pork scratchings and maybe those little packets of processed cheese and crackers). Back in the UK if I went into a boozer that was selling meals I would walk out and find somewhere else. A real pub is for drinking in, standing at the bar and making conversation. I think that's where the pub atmosphere comes from. Not sitting at a table eating a meal.
The closest thing I have come across up mount Tambourine is the bar section of the St Bernard. Feels like a pub. Added bonus is the terrace which has amazing views.

Yep. I'll second 'St Bernards' :0) Not been to The Fox and Hounds' yet.
We are also rather fond of 'The Bearded Dragon' also in Tambourine....more a Restaurant again, but with heaps more pub 'feel 'than alot of other places we've been here..... no Pokies either Not taken much notice of the beer on offer but the Guinness goes down well Food is O.K, but nothing special.
We tend to go on Sundays when there's live Music, reptile show and cane toad racing. The kids like it too, lots of room to kick a ball around, and animals to feed......Wish there was something similar down this way *sigh*

Watch out though if you take the scenic Mountain route and you have car-sick kids
Jan (always the blinkin' designated driver too )

Yes, love the Bearded Dragon too. We usually follow the route up from Oxenford and stop for coffee at the Eagle Heights hotel. Then drive through Gallery Walk, turn left at the bottom of the road and head for the St Bernard. Stop off at the Polish Place on the way back - they have a little terrace where the lorakeets jump all over your table to steal the sugar. Inside is beautiful too - then stop at the Bearded Dragon on the way home. Follow the road down and join the motorway at Yatala, then home to Helensvale. A lovely day out.

If your looking for a proper pub to experience pub atmosphere, the woodchoppers inn in Mudgeeraba comes close to pubs back home, its a restaurant as well but that part is seperate, Sunday afternoons you can listen to live music whilst having a nice drink, no pokies, good atmosphere, people sat on bar stools happily talking away. People in there are friendly. Call in and try it
