Found our first redback spider

Though you might like to see our first redback, that was sitting proud on our garden fence yesterday. It was a very exciting and scary moment.

Enjoy

Are you sure its a redback Paul, but then maybe its hard to capture on camera? Hmmm hope you are treating the native wildlife with respect ;)
We had another  rental inspection this week and I had to remove cobwebs outside (they moaned last time)... went around with one of Sim's socks on a 2 metre pole. I'm leaving it a few weeks before I wash it as it might be full of spiders

My father-in-law searched high & low for one when he was over, desperate to see one (nutter!). His search was in vain, then a week after he went there was one in the shed and another in the garden when I was weeding (unusual, but near the shed!). He was so disappointed when I told him!

Hi Larissa,

Good to hear from you. If ya look closely it has a red stripe on it's back, but being no arachna specialist it could be some other random spider.

Got our first inspection on Wednesday, I was busily clearing some weeds in the garden today, it was heaving with spiders, they all looked harmless though. But you never know... :scared:

Take care, catch up soon.

So not a redback then?

Have a look at this website http://www.amonline.net.au/spiders/dangerous/redback/

Looks the same spider to me.

Looks like one to me too Paul.
Not seen a real one mind, but it certainly looks like one from pictures I've seen.

Yeah from the books I have certainly looks like a redback, apparently the red stripe isnt always so visible....and it cant be a male cos they are teeny tiny and look very very afraid (poor guys....must be a swine knowing that your first sh&g could potentially be your last!!!..unless you escape being eaten by the missus that is).

I wasn't really that frightened, I was together enough to hold the camera 4 or 5 cms away from it. I was more concerned for my 14 month old daughter, and was glad I found it before she did.

Got the broom handle (so spider long way away) and transferred to the end of the driveway. Then brushed it into the borders, it didn't do me any harm. So I'm not gonna do him any harm. :p

Dont get me wrong I'm not big on killing spiders..... I just dont think I could've done that - what if it had ran down the broom handle??????? :scared:
