Question Forums?

Hello all !

Until yesterday I was unaware of what a Forum was, and it was only by a chance conversation in the waiting room of a doctors surgery that I have now discovered the wonder of Forums.

Both myself and my partner were waiting to under go our medicals for emmigration to Aus when a kind couple moving to NZ introduced us to the concept that we are not the only people emmigrating, but in fact a drop in the ocean.

So here I am trying to make contact with anyone!

As we have not been granted a visa yet, we are still hanging by a thread so to speak, but we would love to talk with anyone in a similar situation or anyone with good advice about anything as it is all new to me!

It has been a long road so far, extremely trying at times but I believe it will all be worth it in the end and I continually remind my partner of this. Is this unusual?

We fancy Melbourne as a base? any advice?

Don't chuck the umbrella and winter clothes.

Welcome to the forum. There are plenty here in your situation and a few Melbourne dwellers.

Good to have you on the forums.

We're aiming for Perth although depending if we get a job offer we are happy to change. We haven't had our meds yet and are just starting out in the process....

Lots of helpful people with advice and help on here though.

Fozzie.

Question Re: Perth?

Alright Fozzie!

Initially we leaned towards Perth but I think people saying we would feel isolated got the better of us, what have you heard. Why have you chosen Perth?

There was someone who posted on the forum a few days ago who immigrated to Perth and now say they wished they moved to Melbourne instead. The best thing to do would be to spend some time in both cities to decide which one is the best place to live.

Welcome! I recommend 2 hours per day reading today's posts on this forum and the immigration one plus another 2 hour searching old threads on questions as they arise. Repeat for about 4 weeks or until the either your boss notices you haven't done any work or your other half forgets your name.

You'll be okay. They probably just think you were looking at porn

I was photocopying birth certificates at work the other lunchtime (thought I had found a quiet time when no one would notice what I was doing) but half way through the Group Financial Controller came in and stood over my shoulder as I was doing it Hopefully he just thinks it was for a mortgage etc

Um, will photocopies do? We had to get certified copies of stuff like that, which meant getting a solicitor to photocopy them and scribble on them in an official manner. Annoying, inconvenient and a few extra pounds spent (but fortunately only a few).

Yam Yam, welcome. You'll find plenty of good advice here, and occasionally heated arguments! (Best left to their own devices.)

Melbourne? Excellent choice!

Yes, it's a long and trying process. That's perfectly normal, and there will be times when you feel like giving up on the whole thing (even after you've got here!) Don't give up. See it through. Oh, and stock up on champagne!

Our solicitor is a friend so he said for us to copy then just take them in and he would stamp and sign and not charge. Unfortunately not everyone has a friendly solicitor
