a forum about the Australian lifestyle? Thank you God!
I'm a Belgian guy who considers to Study at Moreton TAFE (Bayside campus) in Alexandra Hills, although that was the plan till I actually looked on the map and searched on the internet for some info about the area.
disappointments:
distance between Brisbane City-Alexandra Hills is +/-30km
the train goes all around (Wynnum?) and doesn't even stop within 5km of Bayside campus
I can't find anything about the busroutes
and oh yeah, it seems that a coastline is not the same as a beach!
Living in Brisbane City was part of the original plan cause I hoped it would take about 30min with the public transport ...
Okay no problem, so I had to find a place near the school
But then came the biggest disappointment, there is no info on the internet about the lifestyle in Alexandra Hills! so I guess it's a pretty boring lifestyle (for a student) no offence to the people who might live there!
What do you think is the best option for me? where should I settle?
I'm looking for a busy place to live, I mean walking distance to a busstop/shoppingcentre/bar/fast-food/fitness/... and all that in a distance of max. 45min with public transport to the Bayside campus in Alexandra Hills.
Thanks in advance

Heres one example of the Bus service:
Bus Route 1 - (National Bus Company)
Departing - 8:06am from City (Bayside/Riverside Centre Stop)
Arriving - 8:48am Windemere Rd & Redland Bay Rd, Alex Hills
see this - Bus Link Info link
then Bus Route 9
Departing 8:53am Windemere Rd & Redland Bay Rd
Arriving 8:55am Moreton Bay College Of Tafe
The nearest station is Birkdale, and an example bus journey from there is:
Bus Route 17
Departing 7:30am Birkdale Station Bus Stop
Arriving 7:37am Moreton Tafe

Thanks ABCDiamond,
but I'm still in doubts because of the time it would take me every day
How is the public transport?
I mean is it old fashion and overcrowd? (like in Belgium)
Can you trust on the timetables?
and I read there is a crime 'problem' in Brisbane City and Fortitude Valley, does it really have a bad reputation over there?

But i've not used buses here either. So I can't really help in that area, although I have "heard" that they run on time and are clean.
Regarding Crime. I think it depends on what you compare against. My personal opinion is that there is very little crime, compared to the part of Sydney I used to live in. But others could compare to very peaceful areas and say it has a lot more crime.
I would imagine that Fortitude Valley could be one of the worst areas of Brisbane at night, but it is no problem during daytime.
