Default football violence

After the police here in Sheffield declared that the violence that flared up yesterday after the Sheff United match was the worst they have seen in many years, can someone PLEASE REASSURE ME IT DOESNT HAPPEN THIS BAD in Aus? Is the post-match pitched battle a norm in Aus too?

They tend to do the fighting down the pub rather than at the football.

You get some hooliganism in Soccer in Melbourne (ethnic based - former Yugoslavians) but in all the other football codes the punch ups are on the pitch

Have to agree with Renth think's Australia choice of footie codes is fantastic. Give me rah rah and league any day. If soccer fans got more action/better role models on the pitch maybe they wouldn't have to get so wound up off it??

Agree with Renth, punch ups are usually on the pitch! We've been up to see the football in Perth, we took the family (8 and 5 year old) and felt very safe. We also noticed how polite everyone was, no foul language and no smoking.

The last time I went to a football (soccer) match in England was Oxford v Chelsea, when Oxford were higher in the league! The police kept us locked in the stands after the match for our own safety whilst the Chelsea fans were escorted onto buses / trains!!

Think your pretty safe at the football in Oz.

The punch ups tend to happen on the pitch!
