i think things like

tea coffee sweets choc (no nuts) are ok

pg tips are good to get as they are quite expensive in oz

hp sauce can go

ps good loo roll (i found the loo roll not as good as andrex )

Hamper, just make sure its not made of wicker!

Just another thought... what about posting somethings out to them by sea once they have arrived and settled. My friend sends our shoe boxes with things like.. that way we didnt have to use our luggage allowance!

pink wafer biscuits
angel delight
oxo cubes
dairy milk choc
tampax
hobnobs
jelly cubes (i can only get crystals here)
walkers crisps

Its mostly light things which makes it less expensive to send. the first one we got was just after a month of being here and boy did we like opening it and finding all the goodies inside, it was like christmas all over again!

Lisa's idea sounds great. We are considering going out on a student visa. We wouldn't be getting our stuff sent over so every KG of luggage allowance would need to be thought through.

YEs, i can understand that, we had double luggage allowance and believe me used every bit of it, in fact we were over by 13 kilos! And it was just what we considered the essentials!

It is lovely to get things from home that even though we may not have bought very often seem like such a treat! Im jsut looking in my cupboard now to see what else we have been sent...
I know my friend and mum mostly get things when they are 3for 2 or BOGOF and keep the spares for us. Posting by sea whilst it takes longer is significantly cheaper

mars bar
kitkat
teatowel from london
the crosswords from the back of a tvguide that my friend and i did over coffee every week!
packet of birds custard powder
pg tips
cadburys creme eggs (at easter)
fly swats (from ikea)

her kids put in some of the fridge magnets they had double of from their cereal

TBH it doesnt needto be anyting expensive, its a cliche but it really is the though that counts.

Rather than get something tied to their past lives (as it were), why not get something welcoming them to their new ones? Particularly as weight will be an issue. And so much British stuff is freely available in Aus.

I was given a Sydney Harbour Cruise voucher for Mr GG and myself as a leaving gift from my employers. I thought that was a thoughful gift. Depending on where they're going, you could do something similar? There are lots of places that offer vouchers/gift certificates.

Best to check first about the foods and items allowed through quarantine to be honest I dont think you can take the wicker hamper or some of the items.
