Default Flying to America/Canada

Hello,

Has anyone flown via America or Canada? My brother lives on the west coast of America and we are thinking of flying that way when we leave for Brisbane but I was looking on United but the prices via Vancouver were over £5,000:scared:

Anyone done it for cheaper!?!

Yes, I flew to Sydney via New York, Los Angeles and Fiji with United Airlines and Air Pacific. It was slightly more expensive than going via Asia, but only a couple of hundred more if I remember right.

I contacted a lot of travel agents / researched on the internet to get the best deal. Flying via Vancouver to Brisbane may limit your options, as I expect there aren't so many flights to those locations from the UK as there is to New York and then Sydney.

We flew from UK to Orlando, then from Miami to San Fransico and then onto Sydney.

This cost us £700 each.

GBP5000 for how many people??

If you want to fly through Vancouver you should look at Air Canada rather than United. On the other hand, if you want to arrive directly in Brisbane rather than via Sydney you will probably need to fly first to Los Angeles (either United or Qantas).

Make sure your passports meet the requirements of the US visa waiver, ie machine readable is a must and children on parents passports is a no-no.

Another way to go is to take a cheap charter flight from UK to Toronto and then book another flight from Toronto to LA with Air Canada and then either Qantas or American Airlines from LA to Brisbane. It does mean you have to gather and check in your bags again in both Canada and LA, but we did it that way and saved a ton of $$.
You could also look at going through New York. London-JFK-LAX-Brisbane. Again, if you look at some of the charter airlines, you will get better prices on the UK to North America run and then American to Brisbane.

Unless you are planning to spend a few days in Toronto this is a risky approach. If your charter flight is delayed or cancelled and you then miss your flight to LA, then you could lose that entire journey.

Yeah. When we did it we didn't need the UK to Toronto leg, so were ok. We also made sure that our flight from Toronto to San Francisco arrived in the morning and our SFO to Auckland didn't leave until 11 pm in case there were any delays. There are lots of inexpensive hotels around Toronto airport for an overnight stay, though. Most have free shuttle service 24 hours a day and all of the ones we've ever stayed in have a pool.

We're flying with Air New Zealand with a 2 week stopover in LA and a change of plane in Auckland (to Adelaide). http://www.leestravelclub.com/cms/Ru...=ASP\Pg154.asp were by far the cheapest at £2604 for 2 adults and 2 kids on the 10th January (11 days :scared: )

Air New Zealand were fantastic. They had a brand new plane on our SFO to AUK flight. It still had that "new plane smell". Our meals were good and there was actually enough food on the plate!

That's nice to hear Dorothy, we had read good reviews elsewhere also. Good seat pitch too apparantly.
