Default Buying a Car in Oz (important points)

Hi,

Thinking of buying a car here. Wondered how it differs from UK:

Things I would want to know about a car in the UK would be:

1) MOT expiry
2) Tax expiry
3) Evidence of fulls ervice history
4) Date next service due
5) If car has ever been in an accident or has outstanding finance against it
6) When manufacturer warranty runs out
7) If buying from dealer does it come with seller warranty and if so for how long

What are the equivalents if these here in Oz plus any other advice would be greatly appreciated? Going to view some cars today.

Check everything that you have listed apart from they don't have m.o.t here but the car has to have a 'road worthy' certificate to sell it. Tax is called rego, and you have to pay stamp duty on the vehicle so if you are buying it from a garage bear this in mind when you start working out a deal.

Hi,

How much is the stamp duty on vechiles? I presume it's a percentage of the total price, and do you only have to pay it when you buy from a dealer, what if you buy it from a private seller? I have been on Gumtree.com.au and there are some realy cheap cars in fact so cheap that they set alarm bells ringing!!! are these some sort of scam??

Rgds
