Floor Fitters and TRA application
Has anybody (successfully) applied through the TRA as a floor fitter?
Friends of ours in England are just beginning the process and would appreciate any specific help/advice from floor fitters
Thanks

When doin tra, include how they hold hammer, use sanders, what sanders, what grit, how they pick stuff up... its a tad like this.
I did a post yr or so back..
Imagine the guy at TRA is blind and stupid. You have to provide detail to him in a way that he knows what material, what tools and methodology you use in installing your product.
Describe in painstakin detail, exact name of tool, ie a No2 Phillips Pozidrive screwdriver !!
Describe EXACT routine for each jobskill you have.
Get copies of everything from past employers, cousres certificates etc etc... and get em countersigned by applicant and solicitor.
TRA are , at best fickle at worst economical !! Include everything, no matter HOW HUGE an envelope for your application you send, AUSSIES love paperwork.
If hes got City n Guilds include that, for some reason Aussies look upto it like actors do to an Oscar.
If his TRA applicaion fails, phone em !!! they eopn at 8, speak subservantly to them and ask why, and how in their opinion you could redo it, they WILL help you.

I searched the forum and got the general idea that you need to flood them with detailed information.
Our friends are using an agent and they don't appear to have asked for any specific information to send to TRA (only details of City & Guilds etc)
Is there anything in particular you would definitely include or exclude - any trade terminology that they should include/leave out.
Was yours just passed straight through or did they ask for additional information?
Don't suppose you have a copy of what you sent (or is that asking too much)
Thanks for the response

The agent will probably get more specific with your friends, so don't worry.
We sent the following with the application. The agent put it all together though, so can't help with that bit.
Application form, payment(bankers draft), birth cert, two passport photos.
Any relevant qualifications or certificates.
References x 3 , and reference from company that trained hubby ( the training ref was the most important according to our agent)
Statutory Declaration re self-employment
Letter from accountant and copies of profit/loss sheets for 6 years
Letters from suppliers
Health and safety course documents.
Copy of advertising ( eg yellow pages ad)
Copy of public liability insurance documents
Letter from Inland Revenue confirming self employment and profession, and again 6 years figures ( to tie in with accountants)
A list in four parts of all the things hubby uses in his trade
1. Machines, equipment and all handtools (right down to a hammer and screwdrivers)
2. Measuring Instruments
3. Materials used, eg, vinyl, wood, safety flooring, linoleum etc etc
4. Diagrams, printed instructions etc.
Our list ran to two A4 pages.
Our agent had the following advise, "Quality not quantity"
Hope this helps, remind them to get 2 copies of everything certified as they need to send a second det to DIMIa with the visa application
