Flights from Oz

Hello,

Can anyone tell me if flights cost more when travelling from Australia to the UK as opposed to travelling from the UK to Australia. I am coming over in November (one way) but have just found out that I need to come back to the UK for a couple of weeks next year.

Many thanks

Sarah

Expect to pay around $1600, that said deals come up a lot closer to the time and airlines are offering promo fares in the downturn. Such deals are normally limited time availability.

I would expect to see some very good fares from Australia in the late part of the year. Many airlines are suffering so badly now they just want to try to retain market share. Rumour has it for example that SQ are about to abandon the MAN to SIN flights as they have not renewed the winter timetable slots with MAN airport. EK, EY and QR have picked up a lot of that sector.

Yes flights cost more AUS-UK-AUS then UK-AUS-UK, just the usual reasons, being a small population we get shafted...

If you know you'll be returning to UK within the year you'd be MUCH better off getting a return ticket.

Tales of $1600 returns from AUS-UK are overstated. It depends a lot on what time of year you travel, but if you have to travel in peak periods you wont get a return for less than $2500 and may struggle to find much below $3000.

Shop around and pick the deals and you can find decent prices sometimes - but deals are far less widespread than they are in UK.

Qantas recently did a "kids fly free" deal which enabled my family of 4 to do the return for $4600 total in May, Singapore ran a counter promotion of $1400 returns (+$400 taxes). But these deals were loss makers for the airlines and we're unlikely to see prices that low again (at least for a while).

Check airline websites and http://www.bestflights.com.au http://www.webjet.com.au for an idea of currnet prices for a given time of year.

Go to www.airasia.com

This airline has been voted low cost airline of the year.

You can get very cheap flights between Kuala Lumpor and Stanstead Airport. May be the wrong end of the country for you(?)

Just get another low cost fare to KL (allowing time for delays between flights!!)

I use www.zuji.com.au as the price to beat for bookings nowadays. Seems to throw up some excellent fares. $1600 is available there for next year already.

Be really cautious of AirAsia..

They have VERY narrow seats (3-3-3 across on a A330 compared to normal 2-4-2), someone had a photo on here once and I was shocked - I wouldnt be able to put my 3 yr old duaghter in some of those seats they were so narrow.

You also have to fly from regional airports London-Stanstead instead of Heathrow, Coolangatta-Gold Coast instead of Brisbane etc etc which may effect your costs of getting to and from the airports.

Also I *think* the changover times in KL are rough(22hr?) pretty much forcing you to get a hotel for a night.

AND... you have to pay extra for luxuries like food, in-flight-entertainment, baggage?, toilet visits (ok I made that one up!) etc etc etc.

Sure its cheap - but for a journey of that length you might actually end up thinking a 'proper' airlines service is worth a couple of hundred $$$ more.
