The airlines are promising a travel revolution between Australia and New Zealand, beginning in less than a year if politicians make good their promise to turn air routes between the two countries into domestic routes that don't need customs and immigration processing.
If the above goes through anyone from NZ can come over without any immigration restriction. I seem to recall the program border security or was it border patrol about a Kiwi restricted entry to Australia at the airport due to past criminal convictions...

Air fare will go down but what is the point if any tom, dick & harry can come in here and roam about.

So what they're saying is that it will be treated as domestic, ie anybody in Oz or NZ can fly to either country, including foreigners? How would it work exactly, once in one country you could fly to the other with just a driving licence? That effectively means both countries give up their border controls between each other as any foreign worker can get a driving licence and therefore travel.

Only for citizens of both countries I think it says.

It means both countries trust each other in terms of their respective external border controls. You can only get into one on the same level of controls to get into the other.

Sense a reduction in Visa's coming

Oh well give me more time to work on the farm

Not possible to make the distinction if they remove barriers completely (which is why I suspect it won't happen).

Although apparently it was possible to travel between Australia and New Zealand without a passport prior to 1981.
