Default Flight options for taking dog to Australia

Hi. My parents have had a quote of £5700 from a Pet Handling Agent for flying a German Shepherd dog direct from Scotland to Perth next year. This is an Emirates flight. Does anyone know if it is possible to book direct with the airlines rather than via an agent as this seems very expensive? Presumablythe agents are making a considerably margin for arranging flight bookings for pets. Their understanding is that the flight costs have increased significantly in the past few years.

Many thanks

We are using jets4Pets which seemed very reasonable, there are different prices for different packages depending on how much you want them to do!

It does seem on the high side although it's 4 years since we brought our two rotties over (both of them together didn't get near to that amount just for the export)

It can be quite complex to export a dog (its not just a matter of booking a flight for it) although it is possible to do it yourself. If you go to the forum search and put in 'taking a dog' or similar it'll bring up loads of threads with the names of lots of different companies which could give you a much more competitive quote, and also links to the information you'd need to do the job yourself (export/import certificates, rabies/innoculation information, arranging quarantine this end, infestation control etc)

Hi mate, PM "Mike-S", he and his wife stayed with us last year and brought their dog with them from the UK.

I keep mis-reading this thread title as:

"Flight options for talking dog to Australia"

Thread contents is disappointingly mundane....
