Hi Ast.....OH went over a couple of years ago and asked the question, as to what he could take. He was told that he could take all fishing tackle, even cork handled.....when he arrived he declared the carp bait that he had taken and they told him to take it through and kill as many as poss . Whether that has changed recently but hope this helps. Ems x

I never used any of my UK style tackle the first time around, this time I am selling the lot apart from the reels, not only are the Aussies upside down they wind with the wrong hand as well.

my mate got stopped with a fishing reel in his hand luggage,he got told to take all the line off ,with 30 minutes left to take off. he told them about the other reel he had packed in his suit case (which was already on the plane) and they decided to let him through !

mate thats one ugly fish,i suppose its takes a bit of time to get used to what you can pick up and what you cant..

i saw the locals at rockingham ,who were all great blokes, fishing with balloons, they tied about 3 to the line with bait as big a leg of lamb and let the wind take it out..one of they caught a very small shark..

we were more interested in the dolphin that comes in and swims round the jetty every night...beats rats running round your feet eh...

Yep, I've all my European coarse fishing gear, and I'm wondering if I'll even use it. It got through no problems with the exception that AQIS slashed the top of my fishing seat/box in their enthusiasm to get through the cardboard packaging. They didn't look inside mind you, I must have forgotten to check/empty it out, it was a bit yukky. Nets all got through, but keepnets are illegal to use here. And I've not seen any line for sale that is less that 4lb breaking strain.

And I'm left handed, and have fished right handed all my life. Here the right handed style is indeed to fish left handed! Fixed spool reels are easy to change, but I ended up getting a special order Alvey reel for surf fishing. It's amazing to stand up to your knees in the surf, in the winter, and still be in shorts and a t-shirt.

Now if only I could actually catch some fish..! Actually if anybody has every heard that there are sharks in the Brisbane river and questioned it, I caught one this morning.

have you heard in certain areas you can get fined for returning carp . they are obviously classed as pests. apparently you can find rotting carcases on some river banks where the anglers have left them.

sorry but they get a good knock on the head. it's more humane than dieing slowly in a fish box . they could flap about for 20 to 30 minutes like that
