Default First post!!!!

Hello everybody,
I stumbled across this site by accident and was amazed at the amount of info being discussed that was relevant to our situation. I had a million and one questions about migration a few weeks ago and this site has answered almost all the ones I can remember without having to ask.
My wife , myself and our 2 kids (5 and 8) are looking to head out to Brisbane if we get a visa, my wifes the main applicant as shes a nurse and is applying on a skilled independant, she's currently waiting for her ANC approval which were told is due by 15th June, the main application form is filled in and ready to go out on the day we recieve the ANC approval. Being fast tracked we reckon about 6 months so perhaps Dec/Jan - does that sound about right?
We're looking to rent a house on arrival and are currently looking at the Bayside suburbs.
I am an electrician so hopefully should be able to pick up a job without a great deal of hassle once I'm licenced .

Why emigrate?- Hopefully better prospects for the children and the alleged better lifestyle.

Why Brisbane?- why not !!

Rose tinted specs? - I've thrown them away recently

Well prepared?- Probably not

Nervous?- A bit, but we're determined to give it our best shot and if it doesn't work out, well, c'est la vie.

We would love to hear from anyone with any advice or from people in the same boat.
It seems like everyone s going before us, shall we turn the light off?

Welcome Jurassic and family
Stick with us and those questions you didn't realise you had will also be answered
Sounds like you have a really good blend in "electrical nurse" so should be no problem for you
Not so sure about the choice of Bayside though. Some dodgy expats living out that way you know

Hi Jurassic and family

we are also heading to Bayside we have a 15 yr old daughter

I'm a nurse have ANC skills back main application almost ready having meds done on thursday (front loading) one police clearence back today! waiting for mine

Hoping to go Jan so daughter can start year 11 on 24th

Guess our time frames are similar.

Has your wife registered in Queensland? They need Transcripts and NMC verification too

I did this first then did modified ANC it was cheaper Also NMC sent both verifications out at the same time

Have you spotted the Nursing Forum on Expats?

Stay in touch

Hi Nikki,
No my wife hasn't registered in Queensland yet, we've found out to late that it would have been cheaper and easier the other way round.
Would apreciate any details on the registration process so we can get the ball rolling.
We've looked on the nursing forum and theres some very useful stuff.
Its just me posting at the moment as my wifes just started 4 nights in a row and I,m left trying to keep the kids out of my bed as they think its open season when mums away!!

Have you decided on a particular suburb yet ? we're torn between being as close to the coast as we can be but also within easy reach of hospitals for the job prospects, I should imagine it wouldn't be much fun driving for an hour after a night shift

Glad to hear from somebody in a similar situation, is six months from application realstic do you think.??

Hi Jurassic

I think the Cleveland wellington Point Orminston area looks good.

I'm a cancer nurse so want to work at the Royal Brisbane (large cancer hospital) it seems really comutable nice area by the water!

We definately want a house with a pool

I hope 6 mths is realistic thats the time frame I'm working on.

We have waited 2 wks for med appointment though and in retrospect would have booked this earlier to send of main as soon as ANC skills back!

Were also getting house ready to put on the market as soon as we know meds are ok

Its alot to do and I feel in limbo wishing the time away.

What kinda nurse is your wife?

Nikki,
We're looking at exactly the same areas and also want 3 beds + pool.
My wifes an RSCN specialising in oncology, plastic surgery and diabeties, shes currently an e grade has been qualified ten years and has done her 998, hopefully she can get a job at the childrens hospital in Herston.
We are using a migration agent and they have advised front loading so we're sorting out our Meds and police checks shortly.
Are you looking to work full time when you get there?, we are a bit worried over childcare costs etc with having 2 small children as we assume that they will finish school before either of us get home on some days.
Do you have any ideas on nurses salaries ???

Hiya Jurassic

Michaela (McMercer) has been a real help shes a nurse in the psychiatric field in Wellington point area and told me basic nurses are paid about $50000-$54000

I'm currently an H grade but don't expect that in oz

I think it will be nice to work at a lower grade for a while its the lifestyle isn't it !

There are so many of us going to the bayside area

Its nice to meet someone on a similar time frame!

Are you getting your skills assessed too?Is that why you used an agent?

Hi and Welcome
I'm just looking in the local Bayside Bulletin Paper and noticed a vacancy for an Electrician here in Victoria Point. It's been in the paper for 3 weeks now, makes it look like they can't find anyone ? And each time i've tried to get one for some work at home, they are almost impossible to find with any free time.

Hi Nikki
It's a bit of a worry isn't it
But then, not as big as the group that met at the local winery last weekend, 9,000 turned up to see John Farnham !

At the next events they are talking about having Elton John, Neil Diamond, Sting etc

And No, I didn't go. I don't like crowds
