My hubby is a firefighter and we are off to Queensland. We have checked out as much as we can (thanks Polly ) Don't know if its the same in WA but in QLD they only take on a limited number of newbies a year and you can't "swap" over your qualifications. You would have to apply from scratch and take your chances - you might have more chance than a young no experience guy or they might decide that you will do things differently and not want you (bit like UK ).
We also looked into him being an airport firefighter (full time here) but that is a complete nightmare - centralised training and he could then be sent anywhere in the country :scared: - over my (and his) dead body!
He has decided to have a complete change of career.
Hubby has decided it's time for a complete change of career.
