Finding it hard to meet new friends on the Sunshine Coast?
Hi,
Me and my wife have been on the Sunshine Coast for two months now (Caloundra).
We have been to one expats meet (about 35 people) and met a few nice people sat at the same table as us, but found it difficult to mix with other tables and also the kids demand most of our attention. As we had only been here a few weeks, we felt no urgency to take names and numbers.
Personally I dont have a problem socialising with a few pints inside me but having two pre-school kids and nobody to babysit makes that a bit of a problem.
I start a new job soon so expect to meet people at the office. My wife however is not likely to start working until our eldest starts school end of January. She is at home all week with our two kids. She can't even phone anyone during the day because of the time difference.
So to cut a long story short. We would really like to meet people in the area that are or have been in a similar position.
We don't really want to be resposible for organising a big meet, just possibly getting together with a few families or couples if you are out there for bbq at the park?
We are both 30, previously lived in Leeds for 12 years and kids are 2 and 4.
Let us know if this is something you'd like to do. If anyone is interested then we'll have a think about venue, date etc.

We have been living in Caloundra for 5 weeks and also have been to a meet in Kawana, did you go to that one in Sept?
My hubby is working most days and whilst mine are all at school now I am not working so could always meet up for a coffee or for a little get together at the park.
Just re-reading your post and I think we were sat by you at the meet in Kawana.... we had 2 boys-11 and 10 and a girl-6!
Let me know!

Yes we did go to the meet in Kawana in September (it was my birthday) and I do remember you (were we actually sat together?). If I'm right you were living at Kings Beach (and if I'm wrong I apologise!) Would love to meet up and will PM you my telephone numbers. Jamie not working for another few weeks so a kiddie free coffee sounds good.
So, how's it going? You all settled? Kids enjoying school etc. Look forward to hearing from you.

Linda

Don't think my hubby can make it to the party - but I shall come along on my own anyway - all you girls are so welcoming & I am looking forward to a good night out in a safe place.
will be good to meet some expats that are also 'newish' to the area!
if you know anyone that needs babysitters I can really recommend Bo-peep 54791240 all have blue cards & police clearance, its not cheap but now and again one needs a break!!! & a good night out without kiddies!!!!

We're moving over from Perth in a few weeks. We'd love to meet people but we don't have kids and believe it or not this makes it harder !! So if anyone wants to meet for a few beers, lunch, dinner, coffee etc, let me know !!

Thanks Linda, sounds good !
Some people think other people are 'freakish' if they don't have kids !!! Nothing wrong with us (I think!!!! )- no kids (??yet??) but who knows !
Perth is beautiful but a little too far from things !

Mel, in the UK none of our friends had kids at all, we have two lads 16 and 12, and we are having to get used to people with kids. It sounds wierd but it is different for us. I spoke with a lady last night who has moved over from Perth. I think her username is lol on BE, she has only been on the sunny coast for about 8/10 weeks in fact she lives on the next street to me!!
we will have to sort out us all getting together sometime for a barbie or something. x

Linda, it would be good if we could all get together sometime. I had a bit of an emergency the other day (which Linda copped for, sorry love). But will sort something out very soon, I promise. will sort something very soon with you. Unless we pop round one evening for a brew??

Don't be sorry - we've been worried. How are you?
You are welcome to come round for a brew anytime, you have our number. We've bought a 'baby' bbq and can't even build the bloody thing - lol.
So, brew sometime sounds good as does the get together bbq. Take care of yourself and we'll sort something out when you are feeling up to it.
