Financial Queries

Hi,

At last we got the grant for 175 PR visa latest April :),however I'm worried about the taxes as I'll be coming from a tax free land ( GCC ) and so I have the following questions:

1- Will ATO claim taxes on my savings accounts in OZ or when I make transfers to OZ from outside?

2- What are the differences between the bank accounts in OZ, specifically in Commonwealth bank, used to know 2 types only, ie savings and current.

3- Is there any recommended plan for beginners that will maximize the value of the money without paying too much taxes?

4- Will 45K AUD be enough for a family of 3 including 2 years baby girl until we find a job? Note that wife has diabetics and I believe her medicines are costly (insulin)?

Ty,
Karim

2- What are the differences between the bank accounts in OZ, specifically in Commonwealth bank, used to know 2 types only, ie savings and current. Pass, I think it is more normal to get a savings account though.

When you move to Australia you will be liable for Australian taxes, there is no concession for "beginners".

It seems like an OK amount, but depends where you are going, how quickly you will find work and how extravagant you are.

Ty,
Karim

Right, apologies in advance but no job to come to? Don't do it, please please please don't do it. Get the job first, why not?

From what I found in the forum it's difficult to have a job in OZ prior settling, however I will look for opportunities for sure

Depending on the job and available people attempting to get the same job they can hold phone interviews, and a job offer can come from that.

And why not? It is what most 175 visa holders do, it is almost impossible in some occupations to find work before being on the ground.
