Finally made it
3 and a half years after starting this emigration lark - I am finally sat in Sydney - new job to start on Monday.
What a rollercoaster it's been...changes to the rules, my daughter running off rather than coming, my father - in -law dying just as we were on the plane the first time round. My dad needing a triple bypass the second time we got on the plane, the house buyer pulling out, my daughter deciding to come again, then changing her mind again with 3 days to go. Then I finally decided to send my money out, and locked a rate in only for it to start shooting up after that - I can only believe that my selling pounds was the turning point
Then just to cap it all the buyer of the car pulling out the morning I was due to catch the plane...
but we are here now, Me, Denise and I'm very pleased to say, my daughter Heather are now staying in a furnished flat in Wentworth Park for the next 8 weeks.

I was thinking about you today, funnily enough. I see that you're moving to Alexandria soon - if you want to try a fantastic place for coffee and cake in the area check out the St Germain Patisserie in Redfern. We were there today and unfortunately I could only manage one cake. I'd need to go there every day for year to check out all the amazing cakes and other goodies they had. Truly wonderful - just like being in Paris. We're definitely going back next Saturday, and the next, and the next...
And Danks Street, Waterloo is pretty good for cafes and food outlets too (but you probably know that already).

Any one of those events would have turned away a weaker individual. I think you will do fine
We hope to be joining you in another couple of months.

Re: Finally made it
Day 1 update...
Walked sydney ragged today to buy the little things I suddenly realised we needed, like an iron, and a desktop box for my telly, coz the 4 standard channels are rubbish....
Have gotten to hate the request for 100 points of ID for everything...of which apparently I don't yet have 100 points (I've bugger all on it with an address)
Plugged the desktop box in and it doesn't work - so back to JB in the morning.
Went looking for the bins in the apartment block after dinner, told they were in the basement, looked everywhere, couldn't find them saw the fire exit, thought they might be behind there, so opened it. I didn't see the tiny "This door is alarmed" notice, so set the bloody fire alarm off. On the positive front I now know all the neighbours as we waited in the dark for the fire brigade to reset the alarm On a slightly more downbeat note, they all think I'm a ******
Anyway, off to bed now, this jetlag is a PITA...
