Finally arrived in Brisbane!!

we have finally arrived after 3 years of planning.

here's our story so far.

we had our leaving party on 31st march what a fantastic night we had, over 200 people and i got extremly drunk either that or cry all night, anybody not sure to have a party or not i would definatley go for it, we were all fine till someody asked the dj to play " leaving on a jet plane " thats when the tears started. flights booked for 4th april no one allowed to come to airport so we had a house full of people while we waited for our lift, it was like waiting for a a funeral my son was upstairs crying and i was sat with him, while hubby was down stairs with other son not even bothered. goodbyes were sat but we were ok by the time we got to the airport, we flew with Emirates from manchester we did 3 x 7hours flight which was good as it really broke the flights up, the only down side was that Emirates movies was not where as good as Singapores as they have on demand movies, but saying that we slept quite a lot as we were on a night flight.

picked up hire car from airport and got ot our rental no problem, got a furnished house for 4 weeks. since being here in just under 2 weeks, bought a car, opened bank account, sorted medicare, and applies for tax numbers, all of which we very easy , everybody here are so freindly and helpfull.

we got talking to a couple on the plane from the gold coast and we have kept in touch and going to visit them soon, such nice people.

hubby got a job after 4 days here, our company in uk Tyco are worldwide and our HR dept sent our cv's off to the companys in brisbane and hubby had interview straight away when he got here and got the job, good wages so things going good, he strarted yesterday and likes it.

we are living in Manly at the moment as this is the only place we could find a furnished rental, but we are moving to springwood in two weeks, we have just secured a rental for 6 months, again no problems with our paperwork as we didnt have the 100 points needed ,so we just used passports, proved we had money in the bank and medicare numbers and that was enough.thing are just going so right for us at the moment hope it carries on.

just got kids schools to sort out can do that yet with us moving soon so they at home for a few more weeks driving me mad, trying to keep them busy.
we going fishing most nights down an wynnum and manly anf the kids love it caught lots of fish and crabs, cheap way to keep the kids occupied.

we have been to recliffe a couple of times for days out, the kids love the outdoor pool there another cheap day out as they play in the pool all day.
we have had a few barbie's down at the park which has been good.

we feel that we will really settle in Brisbane we love the life style and the weather.

to everyone still waiting hang in there because it will happen in the end, even if you are having trouble selling your house like we did we sold it 3 times before it went through and it took us 2 years but it was well worth the wait and if you do your homework before you come you should have no problems.
Thinkik thats enough waffle for now, just thougth id post beacuse when i was waiting i used to like reading the posts from when new people arrived.
will post more when been here a few months to see how we like it then.

Hi

Great to hear that you're settling in well and finding things easy to do. We're hopefully heading your way in August , if the house is sold by then. We have 2 kids 12 & 14. What ages are yours? Manly sounds nice, we're not sure where we'll go but are thinking Redcliffe or Wellington Point area. Where did you find your furnished accommodation from? and where did you rent your car from?

Have fun
Heather

Hi Heather our kids are 12 &13 and they are loving it now, they are out fishing again with dad. Manly & wynnum are nice but very quiet. we have been to Redcliffe a few times to the outdoor pool which is lovley, its a very nice seaside resort we were thinking of living there but i have a friend ( i work with her brother in law ) and we have got friendlywho lives in springwood so we have decided to go and live in that area as it would be nice to have somebody near us who we can call on if we need to, another place we have been told about is north lakes not had a look up there yet, but a few guys who hubby workes with live there and they say its a nice area. we found our furnished rental on the net, on www.prd.com.au, we stuggled to find a furnished rental that how we ended up in manly as only place we could find one, we hired our car from the airport from eurocar we have just taken it back today but you can take them back to any of the retal offices near where you are, it cosy us around $ 1200 for 2 week with all the insurance.. if you want any more info just ask, good luck with the house sale
