hi my name is kylie and ive been a plumbing and heating engineer for around nine years now. i work for a small company and latley ive been trying to better myself by trying to get into a bigger firm and work my way up the promotional chain. for some reason its just not happening and im starting to realise the uk may not be the right way to go.

onto my main question, my hubby and i have always been in two minds about moving to the great oz i was just wondering where would i even start looking for any job oppurtunites? i would like to progress to some sort of inspector or meter installer role (move away from the plumbing side of things) any help or advise would be great.

im one confused brit!

Go through, www.seek.com.au and apply, though not being in Australia, or having a visa already may be a big turnoff for employers, as they normally like to have people start asap, if not sooner.
What do you class as "bigger" company? Most plumbing businesses are no bigger than family run businesses or individual sub-contractors, there are not many national or multi-national concerns, so there is not a great deal of scope for climbing the corporate ladder. Start your own and you are immediately the boss........Subbies contract out to builders and to councils, though you might get something you want with organisations like Energex, AGL and Origin Energy. Even there the scope can be limited.

thanks for the replies ( welcome more ) i will definately look into some of those companys, do you have any rough wage ideas? and if i would need to retrain in any way?

and would being female plumber/engineer be a negative or positive in australia?

Kylie, you would have to get the relevent trade licences/cards etc, but as other posters would say, that is not difficult. Check the search engine above and look for relevent threads on the subject. I guarantee, there will be dozens.
For wage enquiries, I would contact the Queensland Master Plumbers Association http://www.mpaq.com.au/scripts/cgiip...ce=MPAQ/ccms.r and they can also advise you on licencing requirements in Qld.
I work for a retail hardware and timber supplier, and female traddies, in any trade, are not that uncommon now.
