Fees for joining primary school waiting lists in Brisbane
Hi.
I've heard a nasty rumour this evening that state schools charge a fee of $700 just to have your child added to a primary school waiting list, regardless of whether or not they are accepted?
I'm hoping that this is just a rumour?
Can someone please explain how it works, as our child has just turned two and from what I have read we cannot enroll (is this the same as going on the waiting list) until he is 4/5?
Cheers.

I'd say it was almost certainly true if you were talking about private schools. Charging a fee for going on the school waiting list discourages people from listing their kids at every school in the city, which is a common practice, otherwise.

We paid $250 to apply for St Paul. State schools are free.
