FEELING DOWN AT THE MOMENT

Hi All

Been here 9 weeks tomorrow (sat) our only daughter in the uk has just given birth to out 1st grand daughter Ava Lilly-Rose (8lb 1 oz), I feel like I should be there, but I can't. Maybe if I did go back, I may not come back to to Aus. I have seen her on skype and she is beauful, would love to hold her. I have to think of my OH and my son and the reasons we came here in the first place. Sorry for going on

That's very tough but wonderful news. I would make a plan to go visit in xx months time and look forward to that. You still see her on Skype but have a go at learning and loving your new life. I don't think it's a good plan to jump on a plane after such a short time. How much time would you truly have spent with your daughter and grandchild if you'd stayed in the UK? If you'd have been in each other's pockets then I have huge sympathy that you can't just have a cuddle as and when you want.

Stay strong and many congrats nanna :D

Hey first off, congrats on being gran!

Next, you know what? We have all been there and know that the first 3-6 months is soooooooo hard being soooo far away from the environment we were so familiar with...Don't worry, mate hang in there, it gets easier :fingerscrossed::fingerscrossed:

I used to look for any excuse just to wanting to get on that plane back to the blighty...Makes me laugh at that now, but believe me, it wasn't a joke back in those early days...

Get yourself busy, and think of when your lovely grand-daughter will come and visit you and you will be able to take her to the beautiful beaches here, as well as show her all the parrots and if you're lucky, maybe even a whale or dolphin (we've seen them!).

So here's to that!

Congratulations! I can imagine you are feeling really homesick right now, nine weeks in especially and now with the birth of your 1st Grand daughter. Hang in there, it will get better and hopefully soon you will get to meet her.

Take care xxxx:):)

Congrats on being a granny!
Big hugs too as I'm not surprised that you are feeling so torn right now. It is very early days in your move & you must feel very unsettled still.
Best wishes & don't forget to come & moan on here anytime.

Hey Paula,

Well done on becoming a Gran.

The not knowing if you want to stay or if you want to go back stuff. I think, and this is only what I think, if you have those feelings know you will always have them here (they fade to almost nothing on good days) but what is worse is that if you were to go back to the UK you may have the reverse feeling and wish you were back here, are you following me?

I have been here for about two and a half years and think, like you at the moment, is this the right thing? should I go back blah blah blah. Where really if push the feelings a-side for a few moments. It probably is the 'right thing' and the best thing and all of that. The summers here are fantasitic, the winters here are fantastic it is a beautiful country with loads to offer and all of this opens up to you over time.

When your friends come to visit they love it, your family come to visit and they will love. Everyone will tell you that you have done the right thing and you are better off out and I think they are only saying that cos ummmm it is probably the truth.

You will build a circle of friends here and your life will start to fill up again and you will be cool, don't panic.

Here's a thought, if things really do start to get too much and you are really considering moving back to the UK, first and just for like 6 months of something, but before you throw in the towel and return to the UK try somewhere else, a different part of QLD or a different state.

That is my emergency plan.

Hey, hope you are still awake and i have not sent you to sleep. I realise you have the pull of family and I don't, you think differently as we all do.

Hope you start to feel happier soon.

Sam

I am going back to the UK soon I can tell you what it is like but you probably know.
