Default Feeling better ...and question on insurance

Hi

Bit bunged up on Sat night, bit of a sore throat, Sun etc, well last night, I was in bits, woke up with a fever, weak, Mrs B2B made me a drink of honey and tea, allowed me to sleep, this morning I woke up shivering in a pool of sweat, and a CRACKING headache, bloody hell..had to lie down on sofa all morning!

i have been researching flu and it defo is. Never had it before - thought I was dying (!) Thought I might get Reye's syndrome(!!!) Anyhow now I've got my strength back!!

Question:

As we will be on 'vacation' in Australia for 4 weeks when we first arrive, I have been trying to get travel insurance for medical, flight cancellations, and for personal possessions eg laptop value pounds 1000.

The problem I have, is that some peope won't insure me as I am not 'coming back' to the UK - as soon as I land in Australia my insurance is 'void', or no one item can be worth more than pounds 500. I can't put it on house insurance as I don't have any.
E-bookers told me this today, even though yesterday it was fine (should have gone ahead with it yesterday ;-))

Can anyone recommend a mob that specialise in these cases, or who have you used?

cheers

Glad to hear you are feeling better.

Good question this I was wondering myself as we have an annual policy, but it will probably not be valid as we are not returning. The worrying bit is staying in the states, there is no way we can go without insurance there. Look forward to the replies.

Cant help you with the insurance, but can honestly say you are suffering from a cold.
Well a woman would call it a cold, a man states its FLU.

Hope you feel better soon.

lol

I thought it was a cold too - until I got all the aches, fevers, temps, shivers...

you're right, the fairer sex deals with illness far better. Mrs B2B was crook too same as me before I was, but she still went to work as she is paid by the hour..I pleaded with her not to go..etc but I got her brekkie etc

Hi,

I've used Patrick Leigh for insurance. Its costing £39 per person and covers you for 31 days after you've arrived.

HSBC were slightly cheaper but they only gave 17 days cover.

Flu lasts longer than 1 day! I was delirious for 2 days when I had it and felt rotten for days. Jim always says he has flu when he just gets bad colds.

yeah, the symtoms started Sat night, and I will probably have another relapse tonight as I'm declining a tad..

also I hardly ever get ill, and when I do, I tend to fight things off quickly - if I get nausea during the night for whatever reason, I ring in sick in the morning, but am always fine by midday - I am known for coming in after lunch, whereas others seem to take off a few days

thanks guys - will give them a call tomorrow - ask them if they will insure a laptop as it is worth more than the 200 quid single item they mention

One thing to check Badge is that the One Way insurance does not end on arrival in Australia. If it does then you will become an Australian resident and will be eligible for a domestic Australian travel insurance.

Aaah yer big wuss.....

Badge, take a look at OutbackerInsurance. They cater for one way trips and have 2 levels (budget or comprehensive) of cover, you get a number of options on the length of cover and it only caters for the under 40's.

Comprehensive cover for (off the top of my head) 35 days for me and young_lass was £59.24 in total. The single item limit on that was only £150, but there is an option to increase that (for your laptop).
