Re: Fed up of Melbourne. Seriously.
The company I work for just closed the office and laid off 20 staff.
IT is limited and the jobs tend to be support or field services. The Town struck me as a place where all the miners, farmers, army, air force etc came back to get wasted. Loads of pubs.

I doubt that it is the centre of the universe in IT terms but there are bound to be jobs supporting the council, armed forces, hospitals, mining and industry. Redneck? The man has lived there before so knows it's full of delightful and charming locals. I just found this which supports the fact it is a city doing well: Townsville, North Queensland.

Whats St Andrews got, that the rest of Victoria doesn't ?
I'd Suggest that there is a lot more in and around Geelong than Townsville.... and I bet there are some lovely rural places the equal of St Andrews.... possibly better. Have a look around Anakie  I reckon I could name 5 places with similar vibes to St Andrews.... only better ;) Anakie isn't one of those BTW.... |

Re: Fed up of Melbourne. Seriously.
Townsville strikes me as a place not full of IT jobs nor really a holiday destination.
It's more of a service town and a staging area for Maggie Island. |

Yarra Ranges close by. Far enough away from Doncaster and Ringwood for them not to be a nuisance:lol: |

Re: Fed up of Melbourne. Seriously.
I agree with Kim, the Peninsula gives the best of both worlds. If you like less people and more country then move on to the Westernport side, Balnarring, Bittern. There is also a train from Bittern to Frankston a lot of people take the early train and change at Frankston for work in the CBD.
We love living on the Peninsula, always meant to move back to the city once the children got older, but we liked it so much we stayed. Only problem is the amount of people has increased but that happens everywhere. I like country with a city close by and that is what we have. If it was QLD then I would choose somewhere within striking distance of Brisbane, as you can have the best of both worlds there too. |
