Default Family suburbs in Melbourne

Could anyone suggest suburbs that are good for families and less that 30 km from the city center?

Bayside - More expensive but by the beach
Elwood
Brighton
Hampton
Sandringham
Mentone
Beaumouris
Black Rock

SE Suburbs
Glen Waverley
Mount Waverley
Oakleigh

North
East keilor
Taylors lakes

there are probably heaps more but this is what I know. Hampton very popular with UK and South African Professionals, as is Elwood.

Cheers

Are you looking to rent/buy?

Putting your budget may weed out a few suburbs that otherwise may make your eyes water.

Airlineguy, we're 25 minutes from Tullamarine and in a very family friendly area. Only downside is that traffic on the ring road (to and from the Tulla freeway) is shocking at peak hour, but I guess if you worked shifts or flexible hours, it wouldn't be so bad. I don't know much about suburbs closer to the airport but have a look at my area, namely Eltham, Montmorency, Greensborough, Diamond Creek, Watsonia, Macleod (in no particular order). We paid $512,000 for a 3 bed, 3 baths () on a 680sqm block at the end of 2009 when the market was red hot. It's quietened down now so things could be cheaper.

To the OP, as suggested, give us a budget (rent or buy), and what your priorities are (beach, private schools, public transport, established suburb or new builds etc.) and then we'll all come out and sing the praises of our favourite areas

I liked Tullamarine when we looked there.
