Default Family Sponsors /Assurers

Hi Guys,

Just a short note to ask how many of you made the move to Australia via the sponsors/Assurers route - and if you did so, what problems you encountered?

Hi, we went this way, and it was fine, only slight hitch was the request for the bond money had a very short time scale for completion, so if like us you are sending the money to your relatives to put into bond, then make sure that you have all the details required to make the transfer well in advance.

good luck

Hi..pretty much the same as the earlier reply..no great probs apart from the time span between bond requested and the date it had to be there.

Good luck !

I forgot to mention...our app was held up alittle cos by the time my cousin sent the completed forms to us the DIMIA changed the version date of the form which meant they had to re-send the forms. Not a biggy but in view of the fact the forms hadnt actually changed only the version date on the bottom right corner in 1pt print just another added stresser...

Hi we have gone this way also.....have had no problems at all. Now just waiting for visa descision......bond lodged 19th July....not sure how long it takes after this.....hopefully not too long.

Each stage has gone smoothly...so would reccomend it....it is our only option.

Good luck

More problems are encountered on the assurer side compared to the sponsor side, because rules are more restrictive. Problems others have encountered include:

- assurer's *taxable* income is insufficient (sometimes because of salary packaging or claiming a lot of allowances)

- there is a limit of two adults per assurer. A child aged 18 or over when the application is decided (not at date of application) counts as an additional adult, and usually you will need another assurer.

- if the assurer has previously given an assurance for someone else, the 'two adults' limit stays in force until the previous assurance has expired.

- Sometimes assurers, especially if not close family members, back out of the process at a late stage.
