Family friendly locations in Perth / Sydney
Before we go on our trip to Perth / Sydney I wanted to try and understand which areas in Perth and Sydney would be good for a family. We have about £300,000 if we were to buy and I have about $1000 - $1500 / month for rental. Ideally 3 bed place.
Any help welcomed.

We have two boys aged 2 & 4, with the oldest going to kindy a few days a week. We rent an older 4x2 in Lesmurdie, Perth for $470/wk. All the hills areas we've visited look nice and child friendly but pretty quiet. We're from Cornwall so don't mind it being quiet.

I have been researching Sydney suburbs for a while now. Based on what I have seen there is little chance of getting a rental for $1000 / $1500 a month. We are also looking at 3 bedroom places and have determined that we would need to allow a budget of about $700 - $900 per week and looking at places about 45 minutes to an hour out of the CBD.

You will struggle to get a lot for your money in Perth or Sydney. However, we live south of Perth near Mandurah and it is very family friendly, close to beaches and things and you can pick up a nice place for your money there. We pay $320 a week for a big three bedroom with pool and spa opposite the beach. Mandurah is 50 minutes from Perth by train and the train run every 10 minutes. Personaly i wouldnt live in Perth. It deserves its reputation as Dullsville or super violent in the entertainment areas on a evening. And the suburbs are just sprawling dull areas.
Sydney has some great places to live, but your budget would put you a very long way from the city

We currently pay $480/week for a 3 bed house with a pool in a suburb called Berowra. It is quite far North of Sydney but the fast trains get in to Central in just 45 minutes. The average 3-4 bed house to buy would seem to be between $500k and $600k.
It is an absolutely brilliant place for kids. Loads of parks, playgroups, toy library etc. Only 10-15 mins drive to Hornsby for swimming lessons. Far enough out of the city to have a garden and close to bush walks. It's about 45 mins drive to the beaches though so if that's a must might be a bit too far. Generally most suburbs near the beaches take longer to commute to the city as there are no trains. We think Berowra is a happy medium.
