What's your experience Down Under? Do Aussies really believe in giving others 'a fair go', or is it just a myth?

just wondering, you went to oz and came back. where did u live over there and why did u come back? hope u dont mind me asking? i am hoping to go to manly in sydney next year.

They give fellow Aussies a fair go, especially when employing workers, POMS are way down on their list.

Have to disagree with you there Kong as I have been offered every job I have applied for since arriving 12 weeks ago.

Maybe I have just been lucky as i work in child care and there seems to be a shortage of qualified child care workers here in Perth.

No Problem here either, was offered 3 jobs within a month of arriving here. Sorry guys, won't get any Aussie bashing from me.

I have to admit i have found it very easy to find employment here in Perth. I can basically pick and choose what job I want.

I have been offered 4 jobs on the spot, even offered 2 in one day.

Its a bugger though as it interferes with my social life lol.

Lived in Fairlight - next suburb along from Manly - both in the Northern Beaches. They're both great suburbs.

Edit: to answer your other quetion (a cut and paste from my post in 'Returning to UK' forum):

UK = Variety, stimulation, choice, tolerance, humour and - dare I say it - depth.

Oz = space, more laid back.

As I said to my wife "When I was younger, I really wanted to be superficial. Then I went to Oz, and realised that deeper things do matter." !

At the very least, living overseas - particularly in Oz - will make you realise how much we take for granted in UK.

Alls well this end of the Country Maggy. You will probably need about three jobs to pay for all that Socialising I keep reading about in Perth. :D

Things may have been different 100 years ago, but, just like 'mateship, the 'fair go' is another Oz myth.

Today, Oz proably provides no more of a 'fair go' than any other western country. In fact, given the generally suspicious nature of Oz to foreigners, they may even provide less.

Will totally agree with this one mike.

I love Oz ( Perth ) made it easier to settle as we have made some lovely friends over here but Its not until you have left UK that you actually appreciate what you had.

Been here 3 months and I am very happy but I do miss very very silly things that I took for granted before ie.

Knorr ham stock cubes ( come on slate me lol ).

Bisto gravy granules hahahahah.

Beautiful scenery in Pitlochry awwwwwwwwwww its amazing.

Holidays in Europe every 8 weeks ( On visa card I must add lol ).

Its only now that I appreciate the UK scotland as its because of the opportunities I have had to further my education that have allowed me to emigrate to Oz.

I am very happy in Oz but it took me to come here before I appreciated what I had in Scotland.

Maybe its a Scottish thing. My Mrs is the same, sis in law was over for a holiday recently & brought 80 Knorr ham stock cubes for her. :rolleyes:
