Do you have a CV? You should be prepared to spend some time with local agents to assess your marketabiltiy and market value. |
Re: Express IT Job Guaranteed!
cookiemonster dear, you're going to really annoy people if you carry on like this. It really sounds as if you haven't put any thought into this move, yet from looking at your profile I see you've been posting about it for years now.
Against my better judgment, PM me with an email address and details of your situation, what you need to know, where you're struggling, etc. I'm out of Sg at the moment but I'll contact you when I get back in a few days. I can't promise to know all the answers but it seems you have nobody else to talk to, so hopefully I'm better than nothing. Aunty Seasider Seeing in the New Year with a Bang & a Kok |

These are a con. job guaranteed in IT!
1) define a job in IT, changing the paper in the printer? 2) No guarantee of how long the job will last. I have heard about people getting a really crap job that only lasts a week then out on there ear to join the centerlink queue. Do you really expect to get a good job after a 4 month course, lots of Uni grads and find it hard after 4 year.

Re: Express IT Job Guaranteed!
Totally agree. There is a company advertising similar here in Singapore, that cookiemonster may have seen. Could even be the same company, not sure.
IMHO if it walks like a duck... |

UNLESS you have a track record and experience in something relevant and in-demand, you will struggle severely to find any sort of worthwhile IT work in Perth. Your command of English is also inadequate which will mean that just getting your foot in the door will be difficult. [And yes I have worked with people for whom English is probably a third language but they have the skills to compensate for it]. I would REALLY sit back and question your motivation for coming to Australia until you have sorted yourself out - otherwise I can guarantee you will fail. |

Re: Express IT Job Guaranteed!
These sought of things are 100% bull. You often see them on the telly in the UK. Ditch your mind numbing job for fantastic salary position in IT, guaranteed position in 3 months.
I'm surprised nobody has taken them to court as they are surely against advertising standards. I work in IT and I have 2 degrees. Almost all positions of any worth require a degree and many years experience these days. Very low end IT jobs pay little better than flipping burgers at Maccy Ds and are much more stressful. If you are serious and have a genuine interest get yourself enroled on a reputable degree course. Joint honours Maths and Soft Eng would be a good start. |

From what I hear they fix you up with a job answering the phones in some ISP and reading from the old 'prepared script' so the advertising is just legal. It's an IT job yes...but it's like calling the person who cleans the toilets at Cape Canaveral a rocket scientist.

Re: Express IT Job Guaranteed!
My question is, does cookiemonster have any sort of degree or training in IT? If he/she does than maybe they were looking at the course to get a start in Oz. Still doesn't sound like a good idea, with a degree cookiemonster should be able to get something else.
Cookiemonster.... if you're thinking about taking any kind of courses in Oz to get started, then it should be an english course. Your english isn't bad, but it could stand some improvement. For example.... in another thread you were looking for a job and you said your visa expired, and then you mentioned you needed a job so you could arrive by visa expiry in Jan 2008. YOUR VISA HAS NOT EXPIRED YET! If you write it that way then employers will think you can't work here. So, maybe try it like this: "I possess a permanent work visa for Australia" Definitely make no mention of it expiring, it'll scare off potential employers. |
