Expos in UK, for nurses ?

Hello,

Does anyone know of any upcoming Expos in the UK ?

Did read some are held in Cardiff and Bristol but could not find any dates for 2012 ? Did find one for London in march. Which would be fine also.

Has anyone been to an expo, is it worth it ?

Are there many job available for nurses at the expos ?

Thanks all

To be honest, most people on here who have attended Expos have said they weren't worth it.
If you're a nurse you have a head start, very much in demand. Surf the net, find the hospitals in each State for your specialisation and if they don't have an EOI system in place to apply online then find the contact Us page and use that route.
Loads of nurses on the forum and most of them have used this kind of approach

I`ve heard bad stuff about these, I get the impression the worst side of the immigration buisness tends to frequent them. Not saying they`re all bad. But my first step was an add in an Electrician magazine. Biggish add WANTED electricians/technicians in Australia, So phoned the number, All very upbeat, come on,rush rush your nearly 40, Just send us a cheque. Which is where the Scots in me pulled me up. Yeah I`ll let you know"said I. Then did my own homework, Still did it through an agent after getting things wrong. But here now and happy with the company I used. So use it for an insight perhaps, But you will learn alot more on this site and they will not try to sell you a dream on here. And inturn You will need to assess the positives and negatives you will read for yourself.

someone might correct me if im wrong, but if you submit an expression of interest, 'they' (agency?/hospital?) tend to flag you at the basic rate of pay, ie the bottom and its difficult for you to argue your way to your correct rate (ie where you should be for your years of experience).

might be different now, but im sure that was a snagging point for many nurses a few years ago ...

The expos can be good for a fact-finding mission. I do not think they are as big as they used to be, so not as many agents touting for your business. There is plenty of free advice available from migration agents, removal companies, pension advisors, banks, currency exchange, employment agencies, State Governments, etc, so it is a good place to start. Like any expo, everyone likely to be involved in the process is under the one roof. You can find out which type of visa you are eligible for, what the fees are, whether or not it is worth shipping all of your household items, what your pension and superannuation transfer options are, your eligibility for a mortgage, job opportunities, etc, etc. Go with an open mind and a list of questions, collect all the information you need and take it from there.

Hi Lucie1

There is an expo being held by the department of immigration on the evening of the 27th Feb in Australia House. You need to be registered to attend just google skills Australia needs and you will find it. This is specific to healthcare, but can't say what this expo will be like.

I am a Pom who emigrated to Aus 10 years ago and now recruit a lot of poms for the engineering company I work for. We attend the Opportunities Expos that are being held in March. I have read a lot of bad things on these forums about these expos but as a direct employer we would aim to hire 20 plus qualified civil or structural engineers thought this avenue, so employers do attend these fairs.

Re: Expos in UK, for nurses ?

We went to an expo in Leeds a few years back.

In all honesty we knew more about Australia and what was on offer work and lifestyle wise than they did. They didn't tell us anything we didn't already know.

Tried to get us to sign up to a few agencies, but again there was nothing they could offer that we couldn't do ourselves.

Health care careers and engineering were represented and that would be interesting, but again no different to what was already on line.

A quick look around the people attending and from hearing some other questions asked the people there were in the e VERY early stages of the process. They have hardly looked in to moving to Australia until they have seen the expo add in the paper or online. If you have done even a little bit of research then you will find there is nothing new at these expo's.
