Expert says bombing in UK only matter of time
Quick, you lot, get over 'ere quick smart!
Britain has gone on high terrorist alert after suicide bombers killed at least 29 people in attacks on Western compounds in Saudi Arabia.
"It's not a question of if we'll have suicide bombings in this country, but when," terrorism expert Paul Wilkinson told the Daily Express.
Scotland Yard has been put on alert for a possible fuel bomb attack in Britain by terrorists who are reportedly planning to hijack petrol tankers, while security experts have warned Britons to brace themselves for a September 11-style carnage.
Police have also openly discussed the prospect of having to gun down civilians fleeing a biological weapons attack on a British city to stop them spreading disease.
The FBI has warned British police that Osama bin Laden's al-Qaeda network was planning to launch attacks in the United Kingdom, the Daily Mirror reported today.
"The belief is that something will happen soon," the paper quoted an unnamed anti-terrorist detective as saying.
The warning follows yesterday's suicide bomb blasts in Saudi Arabia that killed at least 29 people, including an Australian.
Police in the UK have been warned to look out for any suspicious activity around petrol stations, lorries and underground fuel depots.
"What the police are looking out for is anything unusual, like two fuel tankers being brought together in a place where they would not normally be seen," the detective said.
"Nobody is panicking. We're just being very careful. Everyone knows al-Qaeda has the potential to cause mass devastation."
The FBI report to Scotland Yard says "known al-Qaeda operatives have discussed pre-operational screening and acts of intelligence involving fuel stations, fuel lorries and underground fuel storage locations".
Haulage companies have been told to tighten security and check their drivers.
A terrorist killed 21 people, most of them tourists, in Tunisia last year after driving a lorry full of liquified natural gas up to a synagogue on the island of Djerba and blowing up his cargo.

Hi Peeps
Nothing I can do about it so I dont worry unnecessarily. Just stay alert etc.
When I was a kid I lived in Chelsea in London and often had IRA bombs going off. One night one went off very close to where we lived (at my mum,s workplace) a bike was packed with explosives and left out side John Lewis Clearance. Our flat shook like crazy, about ten mins later another bomb went off further down the road outside a restaurant.
I went to school in Holland Park and got the tube or a bus. I didnt get home one night till about 6.30pm as there was a bomb scare in High street Kensington and only being about 12 I decided to stay on the bus until everything was ok and got home very late to a very distraught mother.
Even at that age I knew to be vigilant on the tubes and buses for unattended packages and I was never scared . I think us kids just accepted the situation but kept our eyes peeled.
Anyway , just a rambling memory from my childhood

Britain has lived with the threat and fact of IRA bombing since 69, we didn't give in to them, so why should a bunch of ARABS cause us much concern.
It def didn't give me cause for concern when I lived their, and it wouldn't put me off going back now.
Just put your faith in the security services, they are one of the best in the world.

This sounds like a recruitment poster for Dads Army.
There was a lot of worry about SARS here in NZ recently - seems to be reducing now - and the Bali bombing too of course.
You cannot "opt out" of modern life by coming to NZ or Oz. The days of NZ and Oz being "out of it all" are over.
