I couldn't help myself sorry but in the middle of the states you talk about there are
no parks no built in bbq's no water no shade and lots of open spaces with not much in
it oh it would also take most of the weekend to get there. Must say a good idea
though welcome to oz.

I should imagine rday means in the 'capital' rather than the middle when he says centre, most people live in state capitals anyway.
I'd love to meet up with anyone who's moved to Adelaide, except I won't be here from June 25 - to July 26 because I'm going back to England and Ireland to see the rellies, yay, can't wait! Not that you'd really want a bbq in winter anyway :-)

Great idea,
I hope we will be in Brisbane next year!
Oh, maybe it shouldn't be called "BRITISH expats forum r-day", because as I can see this site and 'the timeline site' have both turned in multicultural sites! So what do you think about just "EXPATS forum r-day".
By the way, I have been living in The Netherlands since 1990, before that I have lived in Spain, I am actually from Serbia and now I am heading with my daughter and husband to AUSTRALIA!!!

Re: Expats going to or already in Oz/Nz
Emily,
I am currently waiting for my PR application processed, sent it two weeks ago to the
London office. I am also applying for the work deferral visa (22 points), I hope the
process goes without hassles... There's an interesting company near Wellington I have
been looking for, they have just the kind of position open that I would be happy with
(engineering). If that doesn't work out, then I'll have to think of something else.
The uncertainty of finding a suitable job is the biggest concern of making the move
to actually leave for NZ. But I believe it's much easier to seek a job locally than
from overseas.
How much did you spend money on the application itself? All the paperwork has cost me
over ? 750 (of which ? 250 are for the official translations you do not need to
provide, coming from the UK). Not included in the sum are the settlement information
fee and migrant levy. Then the airline tickets, shipping my belongings to NZ...

I'm up for an ex-pat's BBQ or meet in Adelaide ( yes it is a bit cold at this time of
year for a bbq)
Perhaps we could all meet at a reserve(Park) with a public bbq or worst case meet in
a cafe/bar in the city. It would be fun meeting.
