Default Expat support groups on the gold Coast?

Hi

We're a family of four moving over to the Gold Coast on 23/08/05, hopefully; and were wondering if there are any regular expat support/self help groups, get togethers etc on the Gold Coast?

Also, my two sons do Taekwondo and want to know if there are any good Taekwondo clubs - preferably south of Surfers - as they aren't overly happy about the prospect of having to give up. Can anyone help?

Fair old selection of folk on GC regularly on here. Debsy, Wholeworldwindow, the plumber, trevglas, flowersofscotland. threlly etc etc etc plus lots more of us due in the next few months.

Keep eyes and ears open.

Can't help with the Taekwondo but can't see why not.

edit: just found this from a quick search. Apparently one of the biggest clubs in Aus

Probably see you sometime

Hi Mark & Jools,

There are quite a few of us on the GC, and a few more coming, there has been a few meets, I have met some great friends through the last one, really nice expat families living here. When you get over we will get something arranged and meet up. My hubby and daughter do Taekwondo through a great club, there are loads on the coast, they really like the one they are in, you will have no problems getting your sons into one here, if you want any details pm me and i will be happy to give you names, the club is in Arundel/Parkwood about 10 mins from surfers

Good luck with the move

Lisa

Hi Mark and Jools
Just to say hello, we are selling our house at the moment and hoping to be on the Gold Coast in January. There are quite a few of us moving over (see thread 'new friends on the gold coast' on the search) and should be able to organise a few meet ups when we all arrive I'm sure!!

Good Luck ,Donna x

Morning all,

Been a while since I posted - probably when we left UK in January, but after months of having a look around the East Coast, we've finally taken a rental in Helensvale.

Anyone fancy meeting up, especially anyone with kids during the week as Nicole is pulling her hair out with our four yr old twins?

Paul.

Don't I know it!!! We had trouble getting somewhere to stay as everywhere was fully booked cause of the indy.
We are staying in a hotel in Brisbane for 5days not sure which one yet but narrowed it down to a couple then at the same place as Sue2 on Main Beach for 4 weeks to give us a good chance to look around to find a good spot!!
So far like the look of:
Helensvale
Merrimac
Mudgeeraba
Robina - but may be 2 expensive.
But then again until we get there who knows - they may not turn out as they seem in the book/on the internet!!
Just stressing over which shipper to use obviously price is an issue but quality of service is also v. important. I suppose you get what you pay for but these big companies are v. expensive.
Hey ho can't wait to get over to meet you all!

Hello,
We're in Upper Coomera, and have 4 & 7 year old boys. We are having a girls meeting in a few weeks - see here

if your lady would be interested. Lots of the Gold Coast regulars seem to be off line just now. Take Care, Colette x

Hi Karen

Hope to see you there then.

Are Helensvale, Merrimac, Mudgeeraba cheaper areas than Elanora, Currumbin, Palm Beach and Robina?

Hi Karen,

We choose Helensvale as it's quite compact. My other half doesn't drive and given the difficulty this causes in Oz, Helensvale is good as she can walk to the school, kindy, playgroups, park, shops, doctors ect.

Plus, I'm contracting at the moment, so it's a good spot to llok for work in both Brisbane and the Gold Coast, especially given the train line.

The down side is it's about 15min drive from the coast and it's extremely surburban - a bit like a barrats estate.
