Exactly, if you are an immigrant you want to get as many dollars to your currency as possible, it is a no brainer. No rate is going to make everyone happy.

Not the ones I know. Let me see. Out of the 4, 457 holders in my office, each and every one I know has kept hold, and renting out their property in the UK.

In fact, out of all the recent British migrants I know, not a single one has sold their property in the UK.

Anyone using a temporary visa as a method of migration would be mad to do so.

We've tried selling our house but no joy so will be renting it now. I'm Australian, and wife/kids going on a spouse visa, but renting gives us some security should we not settle. Also, prices are rising here. We'll reasses in a year and see if it's worth selling.

As far as I am concerned migrant = permanent visaholder. I'd probably say Expat if I meant a 457 visa holder.

Yes I think we tend to use the term migrant for those planning on staying permanently rather than temporary workers.

Many expats use temporary visa as a path to permanent migration.

We don't use the words properly these days. To migrate is a temporary thing (like the birds), whereas to emigrate suggests leaving permanently. And those people permanently settled in their new counties are immigrants not migrants.
