Exchange rate
I know there are many threads already on this subject but those in the know do you have any thoughts on what is happening and when will the exchange rate will start improving? How long will it take to get back to the $2.10 - $2.50. I want to buy a house

Re: Exchange rate
The current exchange rate = 1.7268.
The cheapest pint of beer in central Brisbane (absolute cheapest) is $4.40, and thats happy hour in one pub. That's GBP2.55.
The average price of a pint in central brisbane is $7, give or take 50c. That's GBP4.05.
Now there's not a lot of science in this, perhaps none whatsoever. But I would say that based on the prices of beer alone, AUD is way overvalued.

Re: Exchange rate
As the previous poster said, no one knows the answer and anything can happen.
In my humble opinion:
As Oz interest rates are likely to up in February, and continue to rise until they reach a 'historic average" (at least 1.0% more than currently), and as UK interest rates will probably remain depressed for a while longer, it's not going to get "better" (for holders of pounds) anytime soon.
The "beer index" is a good idea and I agree it shows that the Oz dollar is "overvalued". But this is only a comparison with historical averages, and if the Oz economy continues to go considerably better than the UK economy then there is no reason for future results to reflect "history".
Hope this helps!

Re: Exchange rate
As you already know (I'm sure ) - the inputs that make up the retail price of petrol in Aus, differ massively from those that make up the retail price in the UK.
However that isn't the case for beer.
I "hops" you get my point.
