Evidence of relationship status

Hi,
has anyone got any advice on the kind of evidence that we might have to submit in evidence of being a couple? We have been together for 13 years this year. I know that we will need a statement saying where we met etc, but what sort of other stuff will be required and can anyone comment on how strict they are / how much stuff have other people submitted?? (If there is another thread knocking about, give me a shove in the right direction!)

Ta!
:D

Hi there
We sent photographs, car insurance documents that showed us both as named drivers on each others cars, mortgage statement (that was in joint names) photographs, statements that we wrote detailing how we met, statements also from friends saying how long they had known us a couple (3 of those), statement from my mum and life insurance documents too that gave details of each other as beeficiaries if anything was to happen. Hope this helps!

Thanks, that's really useful. How far back in years did you go with the documentation and was it queried in any way??

hi we are going on a 457 temp visa and this is what we sent

2 statements form us
3 statements from aunts and uncles
1 statement from sister
1 statement form mil&fil
2 from friends
3 statements from work cols

photos from every yr been together which amounted to over 25 photos
we did not just include photos of us
we included 2 that showed me with oh family one showing sil me and my daughter.
flight tickets for 5 holidays togethter
child benefit letter showing it is paid to me but deposited in oh bank account

european health insurance cards showing the names of all family members but addressed to me

wedding invite for next month from cousin

letters we had recived when i had my children.

oh and birth certs for our 2 children.

and we have been together 9 yrs

apparently just haveing 2 kids together does not consitute a relationship as we thought that the kids b. c would be good enough to prove our relationship.

Re: Evidence of relationship status

Hi

My partner and I are just starting the visa process. We are going to Cairns as I have a good job offer and will be sponsored and therefore obatin a permanent residency visa. i will then have to apply for the interdependency visa (how frustrating that after 8 years together our relationship is not recognised over there). we feel we will be taking a step backwards as we have had our civil ceremony over here.

We will be sending also letters from family, long term freinds, work colleagues, freinds we have in Austrailia, letters sent to each other when we first met and cards...still in envelopes with postdate on, civil partnership certificate, joint bank account statements, mortgage statements, utility bills, also photographs. We will go back as far as we can go with stuff..they will get so much stuff they will wish they never asked!!

Goos luck to all on this post who are applying for their partner. has anyone actually gone through the interdependency visa application and received the visa for their partner? If so, how long did it take?

Keep posted with any tips please? Anyone else going to Cairns?

Re: Evidence of relationship status

I applied for a Spouse Visa as I married and Aussie earlier this year. This is what we provided.

About 6 photo's and cards along with copies of our passport pages showing we had been on holiday together.

A fairly short statement from each of us on how we met

Two certified statements from friends on Form 888.

Joint Bank account statement showing we had been together for over 12 months.

Individual Bank Statements showing the same address for both of us which were over 12 months old.

Anyway in total there was about 12 sheets of A4 and I took my application to the Australia House in the Strand. The guy on the counter opened it and went through all the evidence. He said he was looking to see if if it was relevant and said that some people show a ridiculous amount of "evidence" and most of it gets binned!

They just want to see you are a genuine couple and if you've got official evidence like joint bank statements over a period of time that should be enough. He was seeing if he could bin anything before it went to the case officer. He didn't bin anything on ours as there wasn't much and 2 days later we got it all back in the post from them!

Your circumstances may be different to mine but I wouldn't go over board on it.

Good Luck

Thanks for all the advice so far - it really feels good to know that other people are going through this big scary process. Just one other question...do all the documents e.g. mortgage statements have to be originals and do they return the documents?

as others have said photos, passport is a good one if you've holidayed alot together as it would be one hell of a coincidence to have been on all the same holidays at the same time if you wasn't a couple. also the written testimonies from friends etc and of course your own declarations as to how you first met. Then of course letters, bills, bank statements of the same address. it's really dead easy to prove but a pain getting all the paperwork together. i'm sure you'll have nothing to worry about though but good luck all the same.
