Default Telstra dome

OT - we went to the Telstra dome a few weeks back to watch the rubgy: Wallabies v SCotland. What a great venue, and fantastic atmosphere. We were so impressed. Our next plan is to go to an AFL match. We have a few australian friends who have promised to explain the rules .

I hope you enjoy your visit here, we have been bowled over by Melbourne. What a lovely city it is.

We're over in Melbourne next week for all of July so I hope to get to the matches at Telstra Dome against the Dockers and the Demons (the Gabba match is in between on the 11th) and then the Magpies. Hope you get your tickets, the Lions are moving into ominously good form!

Sorry to talk about real footy folks! My place of work has been declared a 'Wayne Rooney free zone' by my (Scottish) colleagues We all agree, it's not the players, it's not the fans, it's the b****y commentators that get to you! Last night the Bulgarian scored with a penalty and before he has ripped his shirt off to celebrate - 'remember he was born just outside of Manchester'. Even Mrs OzT said 'I wonder how many days younger Wayne Rooney is'!

* Beer in St.Kilda
* Casual Drinks in Ackland St
* Don't miss Carlton V Collingwood at the MCG

yeah, great atmosphere. it was pretty full. have confirmed that foxtel went and fixed the connection so all should be good for tomorrow morning!! lots of singing, 95% english, typical pub atmosphere from back home!

no charge. the $25 was only because it wasn't on tv here, and the specialist satellite people sentata broadcast to pubs as long as they charge for it.

so everyone should come down to the pig on friday morning. i'll be there from about 4am!!

I saw England v Turkey and the Rugby world cup final (England V Aus) last Oct/Nov in the pig and whistle and both times were excellant atmosphere. Get there early, and you will have to pay a door charge (A$25 I recall), but hey if you want to see the game, its the place to go in Brisbane.

two more things....

firstly, it should be a great atmosphere since the place is crawling with poms now who are here for the wallabies v england 'world cup rematch' on saturday at lang park.

secondly, if you go to www.soccerstreams.com you can get a video stream of the game live, but i wouldn't bother if you don't have broadband.

personally, i'd prefer to be in the pub with the atmosphere anyday.

Do you happen to know if they've also got the other matches live (to be precise Holland- Sweden, early Sunday morning)?

Make a night of it tonight, and finish at Football, or start early tomorrow?

Listened to England v Croatia the other morning in Brisbane on Radio2 national (am, somewhere near 100 I think). Crap Irish commentator with a monotone that hardly varied even when Rooney put us ahead but better than nothing if you can't get foxtel

Ok I've set me alarm. I'm gonna give this place a go. Popped in there whilst I was in the city today and got chatting with a couple of Brit lads....they reckon it's a good crack.

Think yourself lucky, we get English commentators who mention Rooney upteen dozen times in fevered pitches .......... when they are commentating on a game not involving Rooney!!

Are you applying for a English commentators job? 70 minutes into Englands win over the Swiss they were discussing England winning the tournament.

They even half self-deprecate themselves now saying "We shouldn't really be talking about this yet, but is this team going to win the tournament". Or "this may be a a bit early to say, but is Rooney better at his age than Pele".

They KNOW it annoys the hell out of everyone, but the just can't stop themselves.

And then they wonder why Scots, Irish, Welsh, Republic of Ireland etc can't wait for England to go out.

So I'll say this, I'll want England to win tonight, until the commentator mentions England winning the tournament, or Rooney being as good as, if not better than Pele. Or some spurious comparison between whoever and Johnny Wilkinson,

So for about 5 minutes then,

Cheers,
JTL

John Motson managed to commentate for all of 1 minute of the game before mentioning England, 1966 etc etc. But I'll admit he toned it down tonight, he's usually the worst.

Ian Wrights final comment on the England defeat by Portugal went like this:

Its wrong that England are out, because England are good enough to go on and win the competition, whereas Portugal aren't.

And the English team (and supporters) wonder why they are considered arrogant?

Cheers,
JTL

Now we just have to live with 10 years of "that Sol Cambell goal should never have been disallowed". Hand of God, Maradona, we wuz robbed etc etc

Arrrrghhhh:scared:
