How new is her passport???

My dad got a new passport a month or so ago and because his old one had not actually run out he was given a 10 yr and bit passport, the ETA system does not recognise why a passport can be valid for more than 10 years and automatically refuses and refers it to a real person.

My dads was sorted in a matter of days ad he has been and left Australia now.

Just one example but that might be why

Cheers

Oh just to add if you get a new passport due to change of name etc and you still had time left on your old passport you will be given 10 years and up to 11 months, maybe this is why??

Try it again and failing that contact the AHC London.

The passport has to be valid for six months after the ETA date.
we had a similar problem and had to get new passports for the kids as there expiry date was too close to our Visa date. I suppose if you stay too long in Aus. say past your actual visa expiry then your passport would be invalid.

no sure that's still the case. in november i got ETAs for my mum and dad, both of whose passports expire at the end of april. (they did, however, have problems for their stopover in KL as malaysia want 6 months validity!)

Someone else with your Missus name maybe on a watchlist or have abused a visa in the past. As JAJ says contact the AHC as most of these cases can be resolved.

Same thing happened to my brother in law. He was told that it is a bit of a lottery and that occasionaly they will make a refferal.
He was told to go the link below and email them the information required and had his eta within 3 days.
