Nope. They're expired and you need new ones. If they arrive with their Aussie ones then they will go through the alien channel rather than the EU channel.

All depending on how much time you have before you travel, you can get them renewed at the British High Commission in Canberra - it is taking about 6 weeks at the moment.

I remember reading somewhere that you could it was something to do with right of abode as long as you could prove you were a citizen.

If they are entering on an Aussie passport they wouldnt need it anyway - if they are just going for a holiday. Why not just renew their UK one?

Edited to say I doubt the airline would let you on with only an expired passport because you are their responsibility if you are not accepted at the other end.

We'd be leaving on an aussie passport, but just checking that if for any reason we messed up with the UK one we'd still be able to enter.

Yes, because you can enter the UK on an Aussie passport and stay for up to 6 months without a visa.

Hey matey,

Technically your right. As a very British Citizen you do not need a Passport to enter or leave the UK, you just have to prove that you are a UK Citizen. This is the hard bit. You are required to present the certificate as proof of your entitlement to be exempt from immigration control. Failure to present the required evidence results in you being 'subject to control' and based on your purposes for entry you may be refused if you don't have an entry permit

You can apply for a Certificate of Entitlement to the Right of Abode which is a stamp added to your current foreign (Aussie) passport stating that you are exempt from any Australian requirement for a Visa to enter the UK for any period of time. However you would have to apply from the consulate in Canberra and you may as well renew your passports for 10 years instead as they are only valid for the duration of your current Aussie passport anyway.

That said the Home Office says "The fact that a passport is out of date does not in itself render it invalid as evidence of nationality or identity."

Confused ?

Either way it sounds like a lot of shat mate and you could get held up for some time in red tape at the border, better to stick with the Aussie one for both in and out.

Is the holiday that Gill was talking about ? When you off ?

If you're just popping back home for a holiday, then let the kid with the expired UKPP enter on an Aussie one. Wouldn't usually be a problem for him to go thru the UKPP line with the rest of the UKPP family :)

My sister and family went back to the Uk for a holiday, the youngest was born in Oz so only held Ozzie passport they would not let her go through the Uk passsport holders exit with the rest of the family who only had British Passports.

Just take the whole family through the non-EU channel. You can enter as a Brit and the kid can enter as an Aussie. If you stick together and look like a family with young kids you might get taken to the front of the queue if you're lucky.

Thanks for all your replies, so it looks like 6 new passports to add to the extortionate air fares and price of London hotels:eek:

Al we're not off for another 10 months, probably just enough time to save up:blink:

One thing to think about though is that the queue at the non-EU line is quite often shorter than at the EU line these days when entering UK. Went to UK with my aussie fiance at the end of last year and both times we were entering UK (we had a quick jaunt to mainland Europe too) he went through way quicker than I did - d'oh!

sounds as though u had a difficult IO (immigration officer) there. families are allowed to go through the EU channel with mixed passports as long as one is an EU passport holder. just make sure that the landing cards are all filled in correctly and given with the passport to speed things up. they may have had really large queues that day.

also the queues do look longer at the eu channel but moves much quicker as they only have their passports swiped, depending on the queue we go with either one (one oz and 1 brit passport)

This is also my experience :)
