We too are going for this route, yeah sure its risky (and expensive) but hey you only get one shot at life!!
Hope you find a way to achieve your dream, this is hopefully how we will achieve ours.

The same happened to us, our sponsor [auntie], backed out, then the points went up and we did not have enough, so we came regional, it was meantto be, and we got a sponsor so my hubby had a job to come to and got PR. Denise

You've probably seen the threads on this site about "20,000 migrants wanted" and that DIMIA may be running an exhibition in London about this initiative. If so, that might be an opportunity to speak to some potential contacts in person when that happens. I don't have any recent details unfortunately, perhaps someone else has an update.

John has actually shaved his moustache off now and he's lost about 2 stone in preparation for his new life downunder. In fact he looks positively skinny. Not sure this was entirely necessary. I don't know if Willy Thorne was as popular in Australia as England (or even India!).

Sorry for the delay, but thanks to all who replied to my original message (see above).
The story so far is that we have been left without Assurers (even after we bared all our income etc to them). We are still working on the Family Sponsors.
Various agencies have suggested the SIR route. But having explored this I don't think (being an AS400 RPG Programmer) that I am likely to find:
a) a Region willing to sponsor me or
b) Employers willing to sponsor me.
There are jobs available all over Australia in my specialisation and I have thought about re-training but time is against me in that regard as I am already 43...
Anyone got other positive ideas/pasths I could pursue?
Steve

Yes steve, there's a migration agency who apparently organise assurers for applicants, although it costs a fair amount. George Lombard gave details of the company and their website on another thread. Worth doing a search.

Sorry to hear your news, but not the end of the world although it may feel that way right now. Some things just don't happen no matter how much you want it. Plan something big to focus your attention on like a luxury holiday or moving house or a new car. Don't waste too much energy looking into impossible dreams as life is too short.... Good luck with what ever the future holds

After reading your post I was gutted for you. Then seeing so many people here urging you not to give up was great ! My hubby is 42 and we were told we needed a sponsor for the extra points by the immigration dept. We started along that line and when it came to the TRA and a long delay we were told that because of hubbys occupation and experience etc. we made the extra points without needing the sponsor. We had applied to go under general skilled and then through his qualifications/work experience it changed to skilled tradesperson which added the extra points.
I'm sorry I can't help much but do agree with others here that where there is a will there is a way. There must be other ways of get sponsors. I'm really routing for you and wishing you all the best.
It's also so good to see how much help you can get from so many people on this site

HI Steve.
My husband is 43 and if he gets his TRA will go STNI, although Ive pursuaded him to resit his English test as he was .5 short on the overall band score.
I just hope hubby gets that without problems but if not, like you its back to the grindstone.
Good luck

Steve, we had a similar problem with assurer last month. I have replied on your other thread. I will also send you a PM of a different company to the one posted by george, unfortunately they didnt reply to any emails I sent them. Which gave me little reassurance.

Re: End of our dream....
i remember reading a post somewhere, (think it was on the immigration forum) about using people to go as your assurors, basically you pay them money and they assure for you.
sorry dont know the details but it might be worth putting the feelers out with the agents on here. Only drawback is they do charge through the nose, but you cant put a price on your dreams in my opinion!!
good luck

Worth a shot, if you think you can do it, and I am sure you could.

They could have done that on the old 457 but the new 457 has changed and is harder to get in now. Even on the old 457 you had to be trading in a business for a few years in the U.K to qualify. There are lots of variations on the 457 when you are here such as the 892 visa. Also I think that they have upped the bar on turnover as well as assets you hold which is a bummer. I was lucky enough to be advised to apply for my 457 before March 2003 because of the impending changes to make the new 457 harder to get.
They don't make it easy do they.
Hope they sort it out someway, anyway?
