what happens at the end of the 5 year point on a PR visa if citizenship hasnt been taken?

IIRC you have to get a Returning Residents Visa instead - assuming you still want to stay!

Because it's a permanent residency visa, you still have a right to stay and work in Oz. But as the previous poster says, if you want to leave Oz for a holiday, business trip or whatever, you must get a Resident Return Visa so they'll let you back in.

As far as I was aware the PR bit doesn't expire as long as you are in Australia, if you're out of Australia when the RRV expires (which is after 5 years for the RRV with the initial visa granted) then you lose PR otherwise you can apply for citizenship with an expired RRV as long as you are in Australia and meet the citizenship requirements
