Employment Sponsorship
Hi all. After asking you guys many questions it would seem our possible only route into Oz is through sponsorship - either by state or employer. The only problem is after applying for many jobs found on seek.com etc, we don't even get any replies. It would seem that emplyers are not interested even if you have the skills and qualifications unless you have your visa in place. Has anyone else found this or maybe someone out there can t ell us where we are going wrong.

Not suprisingly it depends both on the job and the employer. If the employer is an international company it will likely be used to sponsoring employees. If the industry has high demand for skills it will likely be competing with other companies around the world for the same skills. Some obvious industries that come to mind are doctors, nurses, liveline workers, engineers of probably all types.
It costs employers some $000s just to make the applications etc. so it has to be worth their while.

We emailed my wife's qualifications and work experience to 6 companies that deal in her field, and were extremely lucky that one of those replied within 2 days.............that was back in July 2005.
Today my wife has been in Adelaide for 14 weeks (we got our visa's in March) and Im in the process of selling the house to join her.
We never thought in a million years that anyone would reply on that day last July.........but it was something we done knowing that it was our last chance (our ages), so we had nothing to lose.
Try it !!!!!!!!!

We too had this problem. We found the only way to find someone to sponsor us was to come on a reccie. We had a contact - relative of a relative who e mailed my husbands cv to all and sundry prior to us coming out here on our reccie. On arrival my hubbi door knocked lots of companies but this proved fruitless and soul-destroying.Then whilst we were here - he phoned to say he wanted to meet my husband. After a 2 hour interview - it was agreed. and the rest....as they say......is history! It only takes ONE person - to offer you ONE job.
Good Luck

Seek is a good job finding tool, but I would question its strength as regards sponsorship - you might be lucky, but its more a job-finding tool for people IN Australia.

We too can only get to Oz via sponsorship from an employer or a region. Sponsorship requests for a region can be submitted on the immigration website...we are currently looking for an employer to sponsor us and are having the same trouble as you.
I think some of the adverts are only for people with a visa already and who therefore have the right to work in Oz. I could be wrong though?
Some advice I have received is to try to find employment agencies and contact them or contact employers direct by going through the yellow pages...I am not personally sure how successful these routes are but I suppose its worth a try?
I too would welcome any advice from people who have got to Oz this way
I think some visa specialists also secure you a job (sponsor) and then get you the visa, but we were trying to secure a sponsor on our own...is this the right way to do things?
