We are due to book tickets for our daughter and boyfriend to fly out soon. I wonder if we book with Emirates, will we get the Air Miles even though our names aren't on the tickets?

Basically no. Also from memory EK does not allow mileage transfers. She would be better getting an FF number herself and adding that to the booking. Worthwhile remembering that you can use an EK FF card and earn points when travelling Virgin Blue whilst in Australia.

When I flew with Emirates I was lucky enough to have two rather large, sweaty Arabs sitting to either side of me. They don't believe in wearing deodorant. It was a very uncomfortable 8 hours.

If you are a Skywards member with Emirates, then you can join their "family bonus programme", which entitles you to nominate up to 8 family members and each time they fly with Emirates 20% of their miles will be credited to your account.

I talked to one of skyward stuff over the phone and she told me she did not recommend it to me because while 20 percent of my family mileage would go my account the other 80 percent would be gone and would not go to their account!

I think It was not rational ?!

Is it so?

Yes it seems so!

Family members don't earn any Miles in their own right.

Seems ridiculous to me, would make much more sense for family members to collect 100% of their own miles.

Beware that Skywards is about to be overhauled and the potential to earn miles will be much less on cheap fares, meanwhile the miles cost of upgrades will dramatically increase when buying those cheap fares. East Coast Aus will fare particularly badly I think as Perth will now be in a different zone.

Depends on whether they will ever have the opportunity to make use of them. This is really aimed at relatives making a once or twice in a lifetime trip, particularly where they are elderly.

Have to say I'm peed off about the Skywards changes though, we'd just about reached the point where we could upgrade to business for one leg of the journey and now that looks most unlikely as we'll not be able to travel under the changes have been imposed.
