Smile Emirates or Cathay Pacific?

As the title suggests.....We've flown with Emirates before and they were excellent, however CP is £600 cheaper with a stop in Hong Kong. Any one any experience with them?
A reply would be great! thanks.
We also have 3 small daughters and will be one way.

we flew with CP via HK 3 weeks ago and have no complaints would pick them over emirates every time, we flew with emirates via Dubai in may, Dubai was extremely busy and not much fun with our kids we couldnt find anywhere to sit until we got through departures, although I cant compalin over emirates service.

But for me if I had the choice I would go CP.

Worth saying cp are installing fixed seat backs across economy so the recliners cannot intrude into your precious space. Probably more important for adults than kids though. They seem to be unique in this strategy and I cannot help think this is an important step forward and should be supported. On the other hand they are BA/Qantas standard leg room so fairly cramped for adults despite fixed seats.

Emirates are known for very narrow seats and 11 abreast in 777 economy which must be equally cramped.

It's 10 abreast in Emirates 777 economy as opposed to most airlines' 9.

A lot of airlines are starting to install fixed seat backs - if you're tall I wouldn't get too excited as reclining the seat just pushes your knees further into the seat in front.

Just flown on CP plane with these seats and it makes so much difference to your personal space. Found them comfortable too.
Would chose CP over Emirates even without these new seats.

Cathay Pacific every time for me. Also Hong Kong airport is a far more pleasant transitting experience than Dubai in my experience.

I have flown both, and think they are both about the same. Airports, again, not much at either.

Are the fixed seats fixed upright or reclined? I would certainly avoid any airline if they fixed them upright.

The seat backs are fixed. The recline happens by sliding the seat cushion forward allowing the seat back cushion to move into a 'reclined' option.

L -> \_ (kind of!)

Of course, this only works for you if you have some knee room to spare to begin with.

Haven't flown CP for more than 20 years so can't comment on that, but if you find yourself in Dubai when it is busy, turn right when you get in the terminal and keep going as far as you can and you'll probably find some space.

Bear in mind that all Emirates flights now go through the brand new terminal 3 in Dubai.....this has only been fully operating for a couple of months.

Pretty much the same formula as before, where the main shopping are is very busy, however there is plenty of seating space on either side of the main concourse the full length of the terminal......and it is looooooooooooong!
