emigrating without stacks of money
ok so i am starting to panic a bit. House sale has fallen though and being realistic we have dropped the price a bit. Things are starting to look a bit tight. We were hoping we would have enough to get us out there (shipping flights) etc and pay off cc before we go.
Once everything sorted we would have around 27k but we were hoping for alot of this to be a decent deposit on a house. If we take cc debt with us of 6.5 k is it going to be more in the long run to pay off in dollars? This would at least give us a bit more. I know its possibly more than some people have but it feels like we will be starting from scratch. as we only have 14 yrs left on our mortgage here . any ideas/ experiences to share? ;) |
Re: emigrating without stacks of money
Pay off all your debts and start from scratch, once you have an ozzy job get an ozzy mortgage.

Re: emigrating without stacks of money
an option is to raise capital on your property (remortgage) to take to Aus and then to rent the house out to generate enough income to cover the mortgage. I would only suggest this if you feel that u are not getting a fair price on your property at moment. lots of ifs and buts with this option.
Hope this helps. |
Re: emigrating without stacks of money
hmm would prefer to sell house dont fancy idea of renting it out in case anything happens with us being so far away. I guess renting will be cheaper than a mortgage so maybe we should rent and save up. I dont think i will have any probs getting a job as a nurse hubby is in sales but doesnt mind what he does ahhhh theres so much to think about my brain hurts!!

Re: emigrating without stacks of money
Hi Clare,
We aren't going to be going out with much and it scares us! The thought of starting again and being very restricted as to where we can buy. Sent some karma for the house to sell We are leaving our place behind if it hasn't sold, we are able to pay the mortgage for a while but really we want it sold and out of our hair so we can hopefully get some money from it. We aren't keen on renting it out either...can see where you are coming from with that one. The amount of money we will be going out with will mean that we will be bare boning (sounds dodgy  ;)) but then we have no dependants and have lived this way before, so no biggy. Krestsaf, where there is a will there is a way! You are fortunate in that you do not have a property that is struggling to sell, even though it doesn't seem like it. :) Symphathize on the pasta and sauce each night, but you sound very determined. :) Am guessing that you are working like a demon anyway right now, but any chance you could get a part time job on the weekends to get extra money in? |

Re: emigrating without stacks of money
Raising capital by remortgaging would give you cash to take over to Aus - if you have equity in the house...then provided you can keep your payments low on the mortgage by having it over 30 years and perhaps interest only you would most likely easily cover these with the rent and pay no tax cuz the interest is deductible. A reliable agent could handle it all 4 u.
If you are risk averse and want to get rid of proprty quick try: house open day with big marketing drive auction it - & publicise to big house up in advance this way you may get more than even using an agent What do you think? |
