Emigrating with small children
Hi everyone! We are fairly new to this website and are thinking about emigrating to Auz again (this is the second time). We have a little girl now so it would be a bit different applying ,and we wanted to know how it has gone or is going for others in a similar situation. It seems a little daunting!
Cheers,
Jo

Welcome to the forum. We've also got small children. There are plenty of us in the same boat!
Who is the main applicant and what skill?

Hi Jo,
how old is your girl? Our son is almost 3. We expect our visa at the end of the year and would like to move in 2007. Where are you from and where do you want to go, where have you been the first time and why did you come back?

Hi guys!
Thanks for your replies.
We have visited Australia twice before and back in 2004 my husband and I applied to the Victorian Gov for sponsership under the SIR visa scheme. We were accepted, but realised it would be easier for us to start a family overhere.
We now have a beautiful little girl who is 6 months old, so now are reapplying this time to include her.
We hope we would be going to the Geelong area as we have lots of friends there, who would be able to help us.
The main appicant would be my husband, who is a printer. When we applied previously we had a skills assessment done, to which we received a positive result, so thats alot of work already done.

you're lucky - we know noone but that's fine! Your stuff says Cambs, we're Cambs too - where abouts? We're heading to SA/Victoria border, nr Bordertown. Hubby's a farmer so we're heading for nearly the outback/bush!

We are in the process and our little un is nearly 2. Its definately daunting but think its probably better to do it while they are young.
Good luck

She has been in full time nursery since 5 months but we were still alittle apprehensive on how she would take too her new nursery. But after an hour she said bye bye to us and both ate double helpings and slept for 2 hours (on the first day).
The selection of "quality" kids clothes is limited but we brought a big stash with us. The food is better - especially if you buy in season.
Not sure which way you are thinking of coming through but if through singapore I would highly recommend a days outing to the Zoo. Take the kids togs because they have a water area (great for cooling off).
Sorry for going on in relation the kid aspect but thought these details might put you more at ease??

Re: Emigrating with small children
Hi
we moved with a 2 year old and a 4 year old. To be honest the 2 year old never really batted an eyelid - night flights were great - meal and then sleep. Our 4 year old was fine on the flights and moving but has found it hard some days when he was missing people in England.
The flights were so much easier than we expected - we took a small bag of new (ish) toys and drip fed them over the trip - we did night flights so they ate, watched tv and slept. we also broke the trip at Singapore to give everyone a break from the plane, to start getting in synch with the times and also to have some fun cos there is a lot to do when you get to Oz.
the worst bit was arriving at sydney and trying to get all the luggage etc. and the kids across the airport - it would be so much easier if you had somebody to meet you to help with stuff.
Also try to pace yourself with things you "have" to do - do what you really have to and leave time to ave fun, get out and see where you hve come to.
have a good time

Re: Emigrating with small children
We've been here almost two years - our littlies were 3 and 5 when we migrated.
Its the best time to do it while they are so small - no peer issues or pressure, they intergrate really easily as they are at that age where it is SOooooooo easy to make new friends at day care and school etc (And, at that age, they don't argue with you about whether or not they want to go!!!)
Also, littlies just love the beach, parks, camping and all that jazz, so we've never had any problems entertaining them at the weekends and holidays.
Flights were great with mine - 1st time they flew was our reccie trip (we don't believe in breaking them in gentle LOL!) and they were 2 and 4 then - they flew beautifully, I took plenty of stuff to keep them amused but they didn't need it, slept almost all the first leg and then played and slept the second leg.
When we came back to live - again, no probs whatsoever...little kids are way more portable and have a lot more resiliance than we realise.
Mine are pretty much full on Aussiefied now and thats great. Dunna worry about the littlies, concentrate your worrying on yerself! Good luck and best wishes.
