Default Emergency Flights Home

Anyone know if there is any way of getting reasonably priced flights home when a family member has died and you want to get to their funeral???

No, not really. Some airlines have bereavement fares, but usually you have to claim this back afterwards and it's often not on the cheap fares anyway.

My grandad died a couple of weeks ago and I looked at flights home. I decided not to go in the end but I looked on Thursday at flying on the Monday. The price was very good at $1950 from Perth to Manchester inc of all taxes. If I had decided to go I felt that was a reasonable price for a short notice flight. Most airlines now will not guarantee a cheap fare but will at least try their hardest to get you on a flight to get you home in time. I just did a Sydney-London enquiry for Tuesday going for just over a week and it came back at $2147 inc of all taxes. I think most folk would jump at that fare.

PS Northern Bird - sorry to hear about your grand father. Its my grand mother who has just passed away today. Bit if a shock as I didn't really have any idea she had been fairly unwell.

Sorry to hear about your Grandmother, the downside of being an expat eh. I got those prices direct from Emirates website. I decided not to go in the end, it would have been too difficult to arrange everything here with regards to the kids.

My mum died about a month ago and Emirates was the cheapest then for my flight. I went for two weeks and it cost $2300 Brisbane to Manchester.
I found out on the Wednesday night and flew back to the UK on the Saturday, quickest i could do with having to sort my three kids out here.
I hope you manage to sort your flight out and i am sorry to hear about your grandmother!!

If you are after emergency flights you are better off ringing the airlines direct, don't bother with the search engines.
You can then explain why you are going. Most will then do their best to get you on a flight, and will probably put a flag on the booking as well so that if you need any assistance the crew are aware of the circumstances.
